    Abstract: Techniques, systems, and devices to support small data transfers are described. A first node, such as a gNodeB or an eNodeB, can perform operations that include receiving a resume request from a user equipment (UE) that is in an inactive state, the resume request including a small data indication, where context information for the UE resides at a second node; transmitting a retrieve UE context request to the second node, the retrieve UE context request including the small data indication; receiving a UE context response from the second node; transmitting, by the first node, a resume response to the UE to cause the UE to switch to a connected state; processing uplink data from the UE; and transmitting a release message to the UE to cause the UE to switch to the inactive state. The release message can be based on RRC release information received from the second node.

    Abstract: Devices, methods, communication nodes, base stations, storage media, and other embodiments are provided for managing associations in a communication network. In one example embodiment, a New Radio (NR) node is configured for NR user-plane protocol communications between a master node (MN) and a secondary node (SN). The NRnode is configured to generate a downlink (DL) user data message with downlink user data, initiate transmission of the DL user data message to a second node, and process a DL data delivery status message from the second node in response to the DL user data message. In various embodiments, polling and SCG split-bearer configurations are supported by such messaging. In some embodiments, packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) serial numbers are communicated for transmission and retransmission management. In some embodiments, DL configurations initiated by an SN are enabled, as well as UL configurations initiated by either an MN or an SN.

    Abstract: The functions of user equipment (UE), radio access network (RAN) devices, and core network (CN) devices in circumstances where a UE is expected to experience discontinuous coverage are described herein. A UE may send a CN a non-access stratum (NAS) message including a release request indicating that a UE is leaving coverage and assistance information. The CN may interrupt paging of the UE and resume the paging according to the assistance information. A UE may enter a low power usage mode upon leaving coverage, and may use one or more timers to determine when to check for coverage and send a mobility update message corresponding to the low power usage mode. A base station may receive, from a UE, a radio resource control (RRC) message comprising a release request and assistance information, send an RRC release message to the UE in response, and forward the assistance information to the CN.

    Abstract: Systems and methods of providing feedback when a specific PDU is successfully delivered or transmitted are described. The node hosting PDCP entity indicates triggering of a DDDS frame from the remote corresponding node. Rather than immediately triggering transmission of a DDDS frame, the node hosting PDCP entity indicates triggering based on successful delivery of a PDU having a specific SN, as long as in-sequence delivery or transmission of PDUs up to the specific SN was successful. The DDDS frame is transmitted once the corresponding node determines that the PDU having the SN was successfully delivered or transmitted. After reporting by the DDDS frame, the QoS flow associated with the PDUs is remapped from a source DRB to a target DRB.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, apparatuses, and computer programs for enhancing UE handover. In one aspect, the method can include obtaining a request for a handover event from a UE, wherein the request includes at least (i) a request for access to a primary cell group and (ii) data indicating capabilities of the UE, determining, based on the UE capabilities, that the UE is capable of maintaining communication with a secondary cell group of a base station during handover of the UE to the primary cell group of the first base station, generating based on the determined UE capability, a handover command that instructs the UE to maintain communication with the secondary cell group of the base station during handover of the UE to the primary cell group, encoding the generated handover command for transmission to the UE, and transmitting the generated handover command to the UE.
