    Abstract: Compression techniques are described. In an embodiment, a first plane of sensor data is accessed, the first plane of sensor data is divided into a plurality of slices, each sample is encoded in each slice from the plurality of slices, where encoding a sample include computing a median based prediction for the sample, computing an error for the sample comprising a difference between the sample and the computed median based prediction, determining a context for the sample, selecting a model for the sample by using the determined context, and encoding the computed error by using the selected model.

    Abstract: A mixed reality system that includes a device and a base station that communicate via a wireless connection The device may include sensors that collect information about the user's environment and about the user. The information collected by the sensors may be transmitted to the base station via the wireless connection. The base station renders frames or slices based at least in part on the sensor information received from the device, encodes the frames or slices, and transmits the compressed frames or slices to the device for decoding and display. The base station may provide more computing power than conventional stand-alone systems, and the wireless connection does not tether the device to the base station as in conventional tethered systems. The system may implement methods and apparatus to maintain a target frame rate through the wireless link and to minimize latency in frame rendering, transmittal, and display.

The display may have an array of liquid crystal display pixels for displaying image frames of the content. The image frames may be displayed with positive and negative polarities to help reduce charge accumulation effects. A charge accumulation tracker may analyze the image frames to determine when there is a risk of excess charge accumulation. The charge accumulation tracker may analyze information on gray levels, frame duration, and frame polarity. The charge accumulation tracker may compute a charge accumulation metric for entire image frames or may process subregions of each frame separately. When subregions are processed separately, each subregion may be individually monitored for a risk of excess charge accumulation.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for down-scaling are provided. In one example, a method for processing image data includes determining a plurality of output pixel locations using a position value stored by a position register, using the current position value to select a center input pixel from the image data and selecting an index value, selecting a set of input pixels adjacent to the center input pixel, selecting a set of filtering coefficients from a filter coefficient lookup table using the index value, filtering the set of source input pixels to apply a respective one of the set of filtering coefficients to each of the set of source input pixels to determine an output value for the current output pixel at the current position value, and correcting chromatic aberrations in the set of source input pixels.

    Abstract: Devices and methods for error diffusion and spatiotemporal dithering are provided. By way of example, a method of operating a display includes receiving a pixel input, a set of pixel coordinates, and a current frame number. A kernel and a particular kernel bit of the kernel is selected from a set of kernels, based upon the pixel input, the pixel coordinates, the frame number, or any combination thereof. A dithered output is determined based at least in part upon the kernel bit. When the display is in a diamond pixel configuration, the dithered output is applied in accordance with a diamond pattern formed by red, blue, or red and blue pixel channels.
