Abstract:
A user equipment and a method performed by the user equipment that has a transceiver configured to enable the user equipment to establish a connection with a first network and a second network. The method including establishing a connection to each of the first network and the second network, tuning away from the first network to the second network, tuning back to the first network from the second network and determining whether to perform a network operation with the first network after tuning back to the first network.
Abstract:
A method for initiating a codec rate change during a VoIP call by a wireless communication device is disclosed. The method can include the wireless communication device establishing a first codec rate for use in the VoIP call during a call establishment phase; using the first codec rate to encode voice data for transmission during a first portion of the VoIP call; determining a channel quality while using the first codec rate; determining that the channel quality satisfies a threshold for requesting a codec rate change; requesting a codec rate change from the first codec rate to a second codec rate in response to the channel quality satisfying the threshold; and using the second codec rate to encode voice data for transmission during a second portion of the VoIP call.

Loading estimation of 3GPP networks. One or more metrics relating to a cell of a 3GPP network may be measured. Loading of the cell may be estimated based on the one or more metrics. The metrics may include metrics measured, estimated, or derived at multiple layers, possibly including one or more of physical layer, radio link control layer, radio resource control layer, or application layer metrics.

Abstract:
A device and method performs a handover. The method includes establishing a connection to a cellular network. The method includes determining whether a WiFi network is available for connection. The method includes determining performance data of the WiFi network based upon network metrics. The method includes determining a quality of service (QoS) parameter associated with a currently executed application, the QoS parameter being indicative of whether a handover from the cellular network to the WiFi network is permitted. The method includes performing the handover from the cellular network to the WiFi network when the performance data of the WiFi network satisfies a set of predetermined criteria for the network metrics and the QoS parameter indicates the handover is permitted.

Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for network-based detection and mitigation of hybrid client device reception outage events. For example, in one embodiment, a cellular device uses a single-radio solution to support circuit-switched calls on a CDMA 1X network and packet-switched calls on LTE. Periodically, the cellular device tunes away from LTE and monitors CDMA 1X activity, and vice versa. During these tuned-away periods, the network adjusts operation to mitigate adverse effects (e.g., underutilization of radio resources, synchronization loss, etc.).
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to techniques for reducing latency in a high-propagation-delay wireless communication system. A base station may receive from user equipment device (UE) a random access initiation message, having a characteristic that is configured to indicate to the base station a requested size of a subsequent uplink grant to be provided by the base station for transmission of uplink data by the UE. For example, the characteristic may include a predetermined preamble included in the random access initiation message, such that a requested grant size is indicated by which preamble the UE selects from a plurality of possible preambles. As another example, the characteristic may include which RACH occasion is selected by the UE to transmit the random access initiation message. In response, the base station may allocate resources for use by the UE based on the characteristic.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are for configuring a periodic uplink (UL) resource on a first carrier of a user equipment (UE); transmitting a buffer status report (BSR) on the first carrier using the configured UL resource, the buffer status report indicating a request for transmission resources on a second carrier; receiving an UL grant for data transmission on the second carrier, the UL grant indicating transmission resources on the second carrier; and transmitting a user data packet on the second carrier using the transmission resources indicated in the UL grant.
Abstract:
The exemplary embodiments relate to a user equipment configured to connect to a network that supports simultaneous connection to a first radio access technology (RAT) and a second RAT. The UE may receive coverage information associated with the first RAT and a cell of the second RAT, receive an indication of the current UE location relative to the cell of the second RAT and determine whether the first RAT is available for camping based on the coverage information and the indication of the current UE location relative to the cell of the second RAT.
