    摘要: A device and method is provided for treating a person by providing controlled stimulation of a branch of the trigeminal nerve of the person to induce a dive reflex response in the person. A device for providing this treatment includes a stimulus component controllably operable to stimulate a branch of the trigeminal nerve of a person. The stimulus component can be a Peltier device configured to reduce the temperature of the person's face in proximity to a branch of the trigeminal nerve to induce the dive reflex. A controller controls activation of the stimulus component when it is desirable to induce the dive reflex response in the person. The controller can sense physiological and ambient conditions and can activate and deactivate the stimulus component in response to a condition falling within or outside a threshold value.

In one embodiment, an apparatus can include an inverter providing alternating current (AC) power at one of a first and second chopping frequency and a filter. The filter can include an input port receiving the AC power and an output port providing output power by selectively passing the AC power from the input port to the output port. The filter may further include an inductor electrically connected to one of the input port and output port and a capacitor electrically connected to the inductor and to a resistor, wherein current does not substantially flow through the inductor and capacitor at the first chopping frequency and does substantially flow through the inductor and capacitor at the second chopping frequency, and wherein the AC power with the second chopping frequency is dissipated in the resistor.

The containment vessel may be disposed in a variety of subsurface environments, including boreholes, man-made excavations, subterranean caves, as well as ponds, lakes, reservoirs, oceans, or other bodies of water. The containment vessel may be installed with a subsurface configuration allowing for human access for maintenance and modification. Geothermal cooling is achieved by one or more fluids circulating inside and/or outside the containment vessel, with a variety of configurations of electronic devices disposed within the containment vessel. The circulating fluid(s) may be cooled in place by thermal conduction or by active transfer of the fluid(s) out of the containment vessel to an external, possibly geothermal, heat exchange mechanism, then back into the containment vessel.
