Abstract: System and method embodiments are disclosed to provide mechanisms that allow adaptive transmission time interval (TTI) coexistence in Long Term Evolution (LTE) and fifth generation (5G) cellular systems. In accordance with an embodiment, a method for an adaptive TTI coexistence mechanism includes allocating, by a network controller, a LTE TTI at a first bandwidth. The first bandwidth is smaller than an available system bandwidth and is centered around a carrier frequency at a center of the available system bandwidth. The method further includes broadcasting the first bandwidth in LTE system information messages, allocating adaptive TTIs in the available system bandwidth outside the first bandwidth, and broadcasting adaptive TTI bandwidth partitioning information to adaptive TTI-capable terminals.

Abstract: Embodiments are provided for a scheme of link adaptation (LA) in uplink grant-less random access (RA) communications. The scheme includes changing a modulation and coding (MCS) of a user, instead of using a fixed MCS over time, as the user link, channel, or non-link conditions vary during the RA communications. In an embodiment, a transmission point (TP) receives from a UE a packet encoded using a MCS, and detects a condition associated with uplink measurements or other non-link based condition of the UE. The TP then initiates an upgrade or a downgrade of the MCS in accordance with the condition, and signals the UE indicating a second MCS as a result. The UE thus sends a second packet encoded using the second MCS. In another embodiment, the UE initiates the MCS change in accordance to detecting a link or non-link based condition, such as change of mobility.

Abstract: Approaches for provisioning and communicating physical signals and/or channels in NR networks are disclosed. A transmit and receive point and a UE for implementing the operations are also disclosed. The UE specific parameters can belong to different UE ID groups, where one of the groups is associated with mobile UEs. Approaches for allocating, assigning and monitoring for UE specific parameters are also disclosed.

Abstract: Signal processing complexity in fifth generation (5G) networks can be reduced by communicating wireless signals over self-contained partitions of a carrier such that the wireless transmission communicated over each self-contained partition of the carrier includes all physical control channel signaling required to decode data carried in a physical data channel of the partition. The control signaling may include resource assignment within the partition, modulation and coding scheme indication, reference signal configuration and retransmission information. In some embodiments, an anchor partition of a carrier is used to communicate initial access information for self-contained partitions of the carrier. The initial access information may include center-frequencies, bandwidths, and/or air interface configurations of the self-contained partitions. The anchor partition may also carry load indications associated with the self-contained partitions.

Abstract: A grant-free transmission mode may be used to communicate small traffic transmissions to reduce overhead and latency. The grant-free transmission mode may be used in downlink and uplink data channels of a wireless network. In the downlink channel, a base station transmits packets to a group of UEs in a search space without communicating any transmission code assignments to the UEs. The UEs receive the downlink packets using blind detection. In the uplink channel, UEs transmit packets in an access space using assigned access codes which are either independently derived by the UEs or otherwise communicated by the base station using a slow-signaling channel. Hence, the grant-free transmission mode allows mobile devices to make small traffic transmissions without waiting for uplink grant requests.

The UE may have one configuration of the state machine for multiple services or air interfaces. The UE may have multiple state machines for different services or air interfaces that work independently. The UE may have multiple state machines for different services or air interfaces that work collaboratively. The UE may have a state machine that uses a state machine configuration selected out of a plurality of state machine configurations according to the services used. The configuration of this state machine may be adapted to services. At initialization, the configuration of this state machine may be default or be determined according to the services the UE may use. During operation, the configuration of this state machine may change according to the change in services for the UE.
