摘要: A variable transmission electrochromic architectural window includes spaced optically transparent elements confining an electrochromic medium including a solvent and a redox chemical pair in solution such that the redox chemical pair colors under the application of voltage and bleaches in the absence of the applied voltage. An ultraviolet stabilizer is included in solution for enhanced ultraviolet stability. The window has an electrochromically active large area of length dimension at least about 14 cm and a width dimension at least about 14 cm while exhibiting a steady state leakage current of less than about 2.68 amperes per square meter when a potential of one volt is applied such that coloration uniformity of the electrochromic architectural window is enhanced. Preferably, the electrochromic medium is based on the use of solvents comprising at least about 25% 3-hydroxypropionitrile, 3,3'-oxydipropionitrile, 2-acetylbutyrolactone, 2-methylglutaronitrile, 3-methylsulfolane and mixtures thereof.

摘要: The present invention relates to electrochromic solutions and devices manufactured therefrom. More precisely, the present invention relates to electrochemichromic compounds and processes for preparing the same. The present invention also relates to electrochemichromic solutions of such compounds, and those devices manufactured with the same, that demonstrate superior responsiveness to those solutions known heretofore when an applied potential is introduced thereto. And, these solutions, when contained within electrochemichromic devices, demonstrate ultraviolet stability, thermal stability and cycle stability. The responsiveness observed in terms of solution coloring with respect to the solutions, and devices containing the same, of the present invention is of a greater rapidity, intensity and uniformity than those electrochemichromic solutions of the prior art. Preparation of these solutions involve the novel process of pre-treating at least one of the electrochemichromic compounds with a redox agent prior to placing it in contact with the other electrochemichromic compound. Moreover, the present invention relates to methods of preparing such novel solutions and processes for using these solutions to provide devices that exhibit and benefit from the aforementioned superior characteristics.

摘要: The method for sealing electrochromic devices disclosed in the present invention allows the cell cavity of a device to be established and filled with media at substantially the same time, without requiring spacer beads, fill holes and the like to complete the assembly. Moreover, the method of the present invention allows the cell cavity to be filled without accurately pre-measuring the media. Further, the sealing means used herein is constructed of a thermoplastic material that is inert to, and compatible with, the media commonly used and which forms an integral seal, even while in intimate contact with the media in the cell cavity.

摘要: A vision system for a vehicle includes at least a first imager, an image processor, and at least a second imager. The first imager has a field of view through the windshield of the vehicle in the direction of forward travel of the vehicle. The second imager captures video images of a scene occurring exteriorly and rearwardly of the vehicle. When the vehicle is executing a reversing maneuver, the image processor processes image data captured by the second imager to detect objects in the exterior scene to assist the driver in reversing the vehicle, and when the vehicle is traveling forward, the image processor and the first imager are part of at least one of (i) a headlamp control system of the vehicle, (ii) a rain sensing system of the vehicle, (iii) a lane departure warning system of the vehicle and (iv) a traffic sign recognition system of the vehicle.

摘要: An elecctrochromic system utilizes the benefit both from the continuous variability in transmission and memory in EC devices to provide a partial level of light transmission that is variable while minimizing energy usage. An electrochromic element that is responsive to a momentary application of a signal by coloring to a corresponding partial transmission level and maintaining at that level for a given period of time after removal of the drive signal, is provided with a drive signal. The drive signal has a value corresponding to a selected transmission level and is applied for a first predetermined period of time in order to color the electrochromic element to the selected transmission level and repetitively thereafter for the same or shorter periods of time. The subsequent periods are separated from each other and from the first period by holding periods of time during which the drive signal is not applied. A reset circuit resets the drive circuit to apply the changed value of the drive signal in response to changes in the selected light transmission level. An additional circuit may be provided that is responsive to the magnitude and/or rate of change of magnitude of the selected light transmission level in order to provide momentary overshoot of the drive signal level upon a change that increases the drive signal level and a momentary undershoot of the drive signal upon a change that decreases the drive signal level.

摘要: A vehicular video mirror system includes an interior rearview mirror assembly having a transflective reflective element. The mirror system includes a video display device at a casing of the mirror assembly rearward of the transflective reflective element, with the video display device having a video screen and a plurality of individual white light emitting light sources operable for backlighting the video screen. The intensity of light emitted by the white light emitting light sources is variable responsive to detection of light by at least one photosensor. The video screen may be operable to display video images captured by a rear back-up camera of the equipped vehicle during a reversing maneuver of the equipped vehicle. Light emanating from the white light emitting light emitting diodes may pass through a brightness enhancement film and a light diffuser to be incident at a transflective reflector of a second substrate of the mirror assembly.
