Abstract: According to an aspect, a display device includes: a display panel having a display area including a plurality of pixels; and an illuminator provided so as to overlap the display panel and configured to illuminate the display area. The illuminator has a plurality of segment blocks set in different positions in the display area. Each of the segment blocks is provided such that the luminance of the segment block is individually controlled. At least one of the segment blocks satisfies a predetermined condition. The predetermined condition is such that at least two light source rows each including a plurality of light sources arranged in a first direction are arranged in a second direction intersecting the first direction, and that none of the light sources included in the two light source rows adjacent in the second direction are in the same straight line along the second direction.

Abstract: According to an aspect, a display device includes an image display panel; a planar light source including a light guide plate, a first sidelight light source, and a second sidelight light source; and a control unit. The control unit sets first luminance determination blocks in a first display surface of the image display panel and identifies a first luminance determination block to be a target of luminance correction by referring to luminance information on the light sources. The control unit sets second luminance determination blocks in a second display surface of the image display panel and identifies a second luminance determination block to be a target of luminance correction by referring to the luminance information on the light sources. The control unit controls light source lighting amounts of the respective light sources to satisfy luminance of the identified first luminance determination block and the identified second luminance determination block.

Abstract: A display device includes an image display panel, a backlight with independently driven light sources for lighting the image display panel, a backlight control section which calculates, on the basis of required luminance for each divided area based on an image signal and luminance distribution information for the backlight, tentative lighting levels of the light sources, selects the light sources in calculation order, calculates estimated luminance of a selected light source on the basis of the calculated tentative lighting levels or the calculated lighting level of an already selected light source and the luminance distribution information, and calculates, if the estimated luminance does not satisfy the required luminance, a lighting level of the selected light source that satisfies the required luminance on the basis of the tentative lighting level thereof and the luminance distribution information, and a calculation order change section which changes the calculation order at determined timing.

Abstract: A signal processor of a display device includes: a light emission value calculating unit that calculates a light emission value; a chunk determining unit that determines whether pixels within a predetermined luminance value range are continuously present and determines an area of the continuous pixels as a chunk; a maximum luminance value detecting unit that detects a maximum luminance value inside the chunk in one of the partial areas; a luminance gain value determining unit that determines a luminance gain value based on the maximum luminance value such that a corrected light emission value that is a value acquired by multiplying the light emission value by the luminance gain value is a value of an upper limit emission value or less; and a light emission control unit that causes the light source units to emit light based on the corrected light emission value.

Abstract: According to an aspect, a display apparatus includes: a plurality of light sources; a display device that includes a display area provided with n1 pixels and that is irradiated with light from the light sources; a light source controller controlling an operation of the light sources; and a display controller controlling an output gradation value of part or all of the pixels. Abstract: According to one embodiment, a light source device includes a plurality of light emitting elements including at least first and second light emitting elements, lightguide, first circuit, second circuit, and controller. The lightguide includes a first surface on which light from light emitting elements is incident and a second surface through which the light exits. The first circuit connects light emitting elements in series. The second circuit can bypass each of light emitting elements. The controller turns on light emitting elements using the first circuit if light emitting elements function normally, and if one of light emitting elements functions abnormally, the controller turns on the light emitting element functioning normally using the second circuit.
