Abstract:
Hexose and pentose monosaccharides are degraded to lactic acid and glyceric acid in an aqueous solution in the presence of an excess of a strongly anionic exchange resin, such as AMBERLITE IRN78 and AMBERLITE IRA400. The glyceric acid and lactic acid can be separated from the aqueous solution. Lactic acid and glyceric acid are staple articles of commerce.
Abstract:
A method for controlling a wiper motor of a wiper device for a motor vehicle windshield. A control unit implements the inventive method and a wiper device for a motor vehicle windshield. The control unit controls an electric motor which powers a wiper blade on a windshield sweeping between two end-of-travel zones. In each end-of-travel zone, there is a software end-of-travel stop which is moved by a predetermined value after each passage on the software stop, the latter always remaining in its test zone, thereby providing self-adaptation of the sweeping limits in time. The invention also enables the detection of the presence of obstacles on the wiper blade path.
Abstract:
A windshield wiper drive apparatus includes a non-electrical contact position detector of the wiper inwipe position. A magnet is rotated by the wiper drive gear and moves past a magnetically responsive sensor mounted within the drive housing to detect the inwipe position of the wipers. In one aspect, a rotatable cam is mounted in the housing and carries the magnet. Interengaging members on the drive gear and the cam cause rotation of the cam in only the normal direction of rotation of the drive gear. Any back movement of the drive gear through interfering contact of the wiper blades with an obstruction separates the drive gear interengaging member from the cam preventing movement of the cam.
Abstract:
A portable foldable toilet seat overlay apparatus, foldable between a first position and a second position, deploys from a carry case to position atop an existing toilet set and prevent user contact therewith. The device includes a plurality of tractive members disposed perpendicularly projected from a bottom surface to frictionally engage with the toilet seat when the device is deployed in the first position. Each of the plurality of tractive members is arranged on the bottom surface so as to seat adjacently in contact with opposing portions of the bottom surface when the device is folded to the second position, without inhibiting movement of the device to the second position. In at least one embodiment the device is antimicrobial and, in another, biodegradable for single or limited use.
Abstract:
Example methods and apparatus to control synchronization in voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) networks after catastrophes are disclosed. An example border element comprises a network interface to receive a VoIP network registration request message from a VoIP endpoint, a catastrophe detector to determine whether a catastrophe has been detected, a backoff time module to compute a backoff time using a priority assigned to the VoIP endpoint and an expected number of VoIP network registration request messages, a recovery module to determine whether the VoIP endpoint is currently registered with the VoIP network, and to send a response message having a header representing the backoff time to the VoIP endpoint when the catastrophe has been detected and the VoIP endpoint is not currently registered with a VoIP network, and a signaling processor to process the VoIP network registration request message when the VoIP endpoint is currently registered with the VoIP network.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus to select a dynamically peered voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) border element are disclosed. An example method comprises collecting data representative of a dynamic performance of a voice over Internet protocol network, prioritizing a selection of a peered border element based on the collected data, and modifying a telephone number mapping (ENUM) database based on the prioritized selection.
Abstract:
A technique for scheduling conferences includes receiving a conference request, which includes an invitee list, a prioritized list of preferred media types, and one or more times for a conference associated with the conference request. The conference is requested with respective invitees associated with the invitee list (via respective subscriber terminals) and it is determined whether the respective invitees can be scheduled for the conference. The conference is scheduled between a conference requester (associated with the conference request) and available ones of the respective invitees, when mandatory attendees, included within the respective invitees, are available.
Abstract:
Facsimile transcoding is dynamically invoked for devices that do not support T.38 fax protocol. In this way, a unified messaging platform can process facsimiles from endpoints that are not T.38 capable without using without digital signal processor resources. Dynamic fax transcoding can be performed at a session border controller, allowing transcoding resources to be engaged only for non-T.38 endpoints rather than for all calls on an interface.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for communicating information about transcription progress from a unified messaging (UM) server to a UM client. In one embodiment, the transcription progress describes speech to text transcription of speech messages such as voicemail. The UM server authenticates and establishes a session with a UM client, then receives a get message list request from a UM client as of a first time, responds to the get message list request with a view of a state of messages and available transcriptions for transcribable messages in a list of messages associated with the get message list call at the first time, and, at a second time subsequent to the first time, transmits to the UM client a notification that provides an indication of progress for at least one transcription not yet complete in the list of messages. The messages can include video.
Abstract:
A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a network element operating in a communication system having a controller element to receive from an initiating party a message directed to a subscriber of the communication system, receive from the subscriber a request to present the message, identify the initiating party supplying the message, transmit the identity of the initiating party to a telephone number mapping (ENUM) system with a request for a communication ID of a presence system that monitors the initiating party, transmit to the presence system according to the communication ID a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) SUBSCRIBE message requesting presence information of the initiating party, and present the subscriber one or more options to communicate with the initiating party according to the presence information received in a SIP NOTIFY message supplied by the presence system. Additional embodiments are disclosed.
