    摘要: An in-plane-switching-mode (IPS) LCD device includes a TFT substrate and a CF substrate sandwiching therebetween a liquid crystal (LC) layer, and a pair of polarizing films sandwiching therebetween the TFT and CF substrates and LC layer. The TFT substrate includes a SiNx insulation layer having a higher refractive index compared to the TFT substrate and LC layer. The thickness (d) of the SiNx layer is expressed by d=(100+170×k)±30 where k is an integer not smaller than zero and not larger than 5. The protective layer of the light-incident-side polarizing film near the insulation film has a thickness larger than zero and not larger than 57 μm.

    摘要: A semi-transmission type liquid crystal display that maximizes the luminance in reflection mode and transmission mode. The liquid crystal display comprises a lower substrate with thin film transistors, an opposite substrate facing the lower substrate, a liquid crystal layer between the lower substrate and the opposite substrate, a reflection electrode formed in a reflection area of the lower substrate, a transparent electrode formed in a transparent area of the lower substrate, a common electrode formed on the opposite substrate, and a drive circuit for applying a voltage between the reflection electrode and the transparent electrode and the common electrode. The potential difference between a drive voltage applied to that surface of the lower substrate which contacts the liquid crystal layer and a drive voltage applied to that surface of the opposite substrate which contacts the liquid crystal layer is lower in the transparent area than in the reflection area.

    摘要: Openings each having various opening area are formed in a photosensitive organic film by one-time exposure. A polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) film for increasing the thermal fluidity of the photosensitive organic film is coated on the photosensitive organic film, followed by a heat treatment to flow the polyvinyl alcohol film and the photosensitive organic film. After the heat treatment, the openings each having a small area are closed and smooth ruggedness of a surface of the photosensitive organic film results, and further the polyvinyl alcohol film is removed. Accordingly, a reflective electrode formed on the photosensitive organic film has ruggedness having a small average angle of inclination in its surface layer, and becomes thereby an ideal reflective electrode.

    摘要: In a reflective liquid crystal display comprising a first insulative plate having a reflector, a second insulative plate having a transparent electrode, and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the reflector and the transparent electrode, a convex-concave surface is provided at the side of the second insulative plate. With this arrangement, a desired light scattering characteristics is realized with a high image quality and a high brightness, with neither a fuzziness of displayed characters nor a double image. On the other hand, since no thin film transistor is formed at the side of the second insulative plate, the convex-concave surface can be simply formed with no necessity of depositing an insulative film covering the thin film transistor and patterning the deposit insulating film.

Each of the first and second LCD panels includes a pair of transparent substrates, a liquid crystal layer sandwiched therebetween, and a pair of polarizing films sandwiching therebetween the pair of transparent substrates. A light diffusion layer having light diffusion function is interposed between the first LCD panel and the second LCD panel. The light diffusion layer reduces the intensity of the light passed by the first LCD panel, thereby alleviating the periodicity of the arrangement of dark areas and bright areas to alleviate the moire caused by light interference.
