Abstract: Various aspects relate to flexible mobility for a user equipment (UE) based on supported mobility modes of a network and UE conditions. A network may support one or more of a downlink based mobility mode, an uplink based mobility mode, or a hybrid mobility mode for a connectivity state of a UE. A UE may determine a serving cell based on at least one downlink signal. The UE may determine based on the at least one downlink signal, a set of supported mobility modes for the serving cell, including at least one of a downlink based mobility mode, an uplink based mobility mode, or a hybrid based mobility mode. The UE may follow a mobility procedure based on a selected mobility mode from the determined set of supported mobility modes. Other aspects relate to a base station transmitting synchronization signals to support flexible mobility.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for fountain hybrid automatic repeat request (HARD) for reliable low latency communication. A wireless device may transmit a data block based on a low latency operational mode. The device may then transmit a number of redundancy versions of the data block prior to determining whether an acknowledgement (ACK) has been received. In some examples the ACK may be an augmented ACK, which may be based on the number of redundancy versions received prior to successfully decoding the data block, and which may include an additional resource request. In some examples, the device may select an updated modulation and coding scheme (MCS) based on the augmented ACK. In some examples, the device may increase a number of frequency resources (e.g., component carriers) used for transmission based on the augmented ACK.

Abstract: Wireless devices may employ techniques for indicating alternative modulation coding schemes (MCSs) (e.g., MCS values or MCS indices not associated with a default list or default MCS table). That is, communications (e.g., such as physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) transmissions carrying downlink control information (DCI), physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) transmissions carrying uplink grants, etc.) may include information (e.g., in MCS fields and reserved fields) that indicate alternative MCSs for subsequent communications. For example, random access radio network temporary identifier (RA-RNTI) scrambled DCI, random access response (RAR) messages, etc., may indicate an alternative MCS for subsequent messages in a random access procedure (e.g., for a RAR, an RRC connection request, etc.). The alternative MCS may be conveyed by indicating information such as MCS scaling factors, alternative MCS table IDs, MCS indices associated with the alternative MCS table, or some combination thereof.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure describe synchronizing frequency and/or timing in a wireless communication system. A synchronization channel frequency can be determined as one of a plurality of possible synchronization channel frequencies within a frequency band. A tone of one or more synchronization signals that corresponds to the synchronization channel frequency can be punctured, and the one or more synchronization signals can be transmitted as centered around the synchronization channel frequency.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide methods and apparatuses that can utilize different subframe structures to estimate a channel during wireless communication in different scenarios. When a scheduling entity determines that a scheduled entity is near or at a cell edge, the scheduled entity may use a special subframe to estimate the channel utilizing more resources of the subframe, for example data signals. The special subframe can facilitate channel estimation by using a less complex (or lower rank) modulation and coding scheme (MCS) for the data symbols than a normal subframe for other scheduled entities not located near the cell edge.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that support pairwise cross correlation sequences for non-orthogonal multiple access wireless communications. A user equipment (UE) may receive, from a base station, an indication of a spreading factor and a number of transmitters in a group of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) transmitters configured for concurrent transmissions. The UE may determine, based on the spreading factor and the number of transmitters, a first spreading sequence of a set of spreading sequences from a first codebook, the first spreading sequence having a defined value for pairwise cross correlation with each spreading sequence of the plurality of spreading sequences. The first UE may identify data to be transmitted in an uplink transmission, apply the first spreading sequence to the data to be transmitted in the uplink transmission, and transmit the uplink transmission to the base station.
