    摘要: A clamping force of given strength is directed at right angles to a rectangular piece of plastic sheeting whose width and length are somewhat greater than that of a cupboard door with the piece of plastic sandwiched between the door and an evenly heated supporting plate which is maintained at constant temperature of at least 50.degree. C., and the projecting marginal edges of the plastic sheeting are stretched and subsequently pressed against the surface portion on the rear side of the cupboard door preheated with contact glue. The applied clamping force must be sufficient to prevent the portion of sheeting from being pulled out from between the plate and the cupboard door front while permitting that sheet portion to be stretched and extended along with the marginal portion through which the stretch force is exerted, but the force may not be so excessive that the stretching or extension of that sheet portion is prohibitive.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for manufacturing padded or cushioned straps having a main structural strap member adatped to be fastened to a surface, a vinyl wrap or cover and a foam cushion material intermediate the vinyl wrap and the strap member. The method of the present invention includes the steps of (1) longitudinally tensioning the vinyl wrap, (2) positioning the foam cushioning material and the strap member on the vinyl wrap, (3) compressing the foam and securing the components in position by applying a force across the strap member and the vinyl wrap, (4) wrapping and transversely tensioning the vinyl wrap about the foam member and the strap member so that the longitudinal edges are opposed, (5) maintaining the vinyl wrap in transverse tension and maintaining the position of the components, (6) positioning a trim strip across the opposed longitudinal edges of the vinyl wrap, (7) joining the trim strip to the vinyl wrap by dielectric heating of the trim strip and the vinyl wrap, (8) bending the assembled strap to an appropriate shape, and (9) heating the assembled strap to shrink the vinyl wrap. The apparatus disclosed herein provides a convenient structure for practicing the above method.

    摘要: A method and an apparatus for forming a top assembly for desks, tables, credenzas and similar items having a core and an outer layer of a thin hard laminated plastic sheet adhered to the core. The thin hard laminated plastic sheet covers the top surface of the core and is wrapped around the side and end walls and undersurface edges thereof. The laminated plastic sheet is unbroken by seams or rims along the side and end edges of the top assembly. In forming the top assembly, a one-piece thin hard laminated plastic sheet is adhered by cement to the top surface of the core and is positioned so that side and end portions of the laminated plastic sheet extend beyond the side and end edges of the top surface. A selected extending side or end portion of the laminated plastic sheet is heated to soften it and make it pliable. The softened laminated plastic is bent downwardly and pressed into contact with the adjacent adhesive coated side or end wall of the core thereby adhering the laminated plastic sheet to that wall. The bending and pressing are continued thereby bending the laminated plastic sheet inwardly to adhere it to the edge of the undersurface of the core. This operation is repeated for each side or end of the top assembly. The apparatus used includes a hydraulic actuating clamping bar for holding the top assembly in place during bending operations and a hydraulic actuated bending or forming bar which bends the softened laminated plastic sheet downwardly and wraps it around and under the side and end walls of the top assembly core. During bending operations, the forming bar pivots about an axis which is moving in an arcuate path. The movement of the forming bar in the arcuate path is opposed by spring means.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for post forming laminate tops. A top substrate and its overhanging laminate are mounted on a pivotable supporting table. When the table is in a first position, the overhanging laminate is adjacent a heater of generally C-shaped cross section. The heater can be pivoted into a position embracing the overhanging portion of the laminate. The laminate is very rapidly heated to a temperature of approximately 335.degree. to 365.degree.F., preferably within a period of about from 12 to 16 seconds. The ambient heater temperature is roughly from 550.degree. to 750.degree.F. As soon as the laminate has been heated, the heater pivots out of position. The table pivots upwardly, thereby wiping the overhanging laminate past the bottom edge of a former. The former then moves forwardly and, due to a generally C-shaped cross section, firmly clamps the overhanging laminate around the periphery of the substrate. After cooling, the former is retracted and the post formed top can be removed.
