摘要: In a water mattress, a series of interior bags or bladders are individually attached to the top and bottom layers in order to damp the movement of water. Each bag or bladder comprises a pair of disks peripherally heat sealed together. The disks are respectively heat sealed to the top and bottom layers. The improvement consists of a method of attachment of the bags or bladders to the top and bottom layers. A removable floating ring die is inserted between the companion disks. Large area dielectric plates close about the disks and ring die. Seals are achieved with very little distortion of the top and bottom mattress layers. The floating die is removed. The process is repeated until all the bags or bladders are attached. The strength of the top and bottom layers is not significantly impaired by the welding process, since no localized stress regions are created there. The hazard of leakage is largely eliminated.

摘要: An apparatus for use in sealing layers of thermoplastic material together from one side of the layers includes a heat sealing electrode having a first conductive element mounted on a support and adapted to be connected to a source of high frequency energy, and a second conductive element mounted on the same support but in spaced general parallel relation to the first conductive element and adapted to be connected to an electrical ground. The conductive elements are electrically insulated from each other and, when they are applied to one side of the thermoplastic sheet material to be sealed and high frequency energy is supplied to the first electrode, a seal is formed in the material beneath and between the ends of the electrode elements.

摘要: Thermoplastic materials, such as polyvinylchoride, cannot normally be heat bonded to certain higher-melting synthetic fabrics, such as nylon or the like, which are of the densely woven type and are also frequently treated with silicone or analogous substances to make them water repellant and/or windproof. The present method overcomes this problem by heat-bonding such materials under pressure and the application of a dielectric field, and by causing sufficient dielectric resistance to be present at the synthetic fabric so that the dielectric field is able to heat the synthetic fabric to a temperature at which it becomes sufficiently flowable to bond with the thermoplastic material.

摘要: A pair of jaws moveable with respect to one another whether mounted in a hand held sealer or desk mounted sealer, compresses, heats, elongates, spreads and welds liquid filled tubing placed therebetween. Variants of the pair of jaws provide means for serially or simultaneously segmenting the tubing into a plurality of sealed compartments. The pair of jaws are electrically connected to a source of RF energy as the plates of a variable capacitor in an RF resonant circuit. The flow of RF energy across the pair of jaws, which energy heats the tubing and, in conjunction with mechanical pressure, makes the weld, is a function of timing and of the spacing between the jaws which spacing affects the degree of resonance of the RF resonant circuit. Simultaneous with the heating of the tubing, the configuration of the pair of jaws compresses the tubing placed therebetween and focuses the RF energy in a narrow swath across the tubing while simultaneously elongating and spreading the tubing at the swath to obtain a leak free weld, which weld is configured to provide for separation of the sealed compartments without tearing or rupturing the compartments.

摘要: A desk mounted tubing sealer useable by either seated or standing operators heat seals liquid filled plastic tubing on command. The sealer generates a source of RF energy to heat seal plastic tubing on placement thereof between a fixed jaw and a tube compressing movable jaw. The jaws and attendant structure serves as a heat sink to dissipate heat and prevent a heat buildup during rapid repetitive operation of the sealer. Adequate space and drainage are provided about the operating components for cleaning purposes in the event of a burst tube during formation of a seal.
