Abstract: A final gear box accommodates a pinion gear and a bevel gear in a rotatable manner and contains an oil. A recess is provided at a downstream end of a drive shaft. The recess and the upstream end of the pinion gear shaft portion are splined coupled with each other so that the drive shaft and the pinion gear can be rotated together and relatively moved in an axial direction. A space permitting relative movement between the drive shaft and the pinion gear is provided between the pinion gear and the recess. The pinion gear is provided with a hollow portion which pierces the pinion gear in the axial direction and conducts oil to the space portion.

Abstract: A brake caliper includes: a caliper body which slidably houses a mechanically operated piston which presses a brake disc; a rotation cylinder member which is arranged alongside the mechanically operated piston, coaxially with the mechanically operated piston, and which is rotatably supported on the caliper body; a rotation arm which is fixed to the rotation cylinder member, and which rotates the rotation cylinder member by means of an operation of an operating element; a conversion mechanism which is provided between the rotation cylinder member and the mechanically operated piston, and which converts rotary motion of the rotation cylinder member into axial linear motion of the mechanically operated piston to thereby press and move the mechanically operated piston toward the brake disc side; and a return spring which biases the mechanically operated piston in a direction of moving away from the brake disc.

Abstract: The present invention provides a bicycle having front and rear wheels, a frame supported by the wheels, and a brake system. The brake system includes a caliper arm pivotally coupled to the frame at a pivot point, a pad secured to the caliper arm at a location spaced from the pivot point by a first distance, and an actuator (e.g., a hydraulic piston) positioned to apply a force to the caliper arm at a location that is spaced from the pivot point by a second distance less than the first distance. Preferably, the actuating location is positioned between the pivot axis and the pad. In addition, it is preferred to have a ratio of the first distance to the second distance be at least 4.0, preferably at least 6.0, and more preferably about 8.0.
