Abstract:
A plastic shim or other workpiece useful in the construction industry. The shim or workpiece is an elongated tapered hard plastic body incorporating qualities of a shim lacking in wooden shims. Each shim has transverse break lines so that segments can be broken off to adjust its length. For handling, a plurality of such shims are molded in a sheet with adjacent shims being spaced along their thinner sections but separably joined by longitudinal, break lines extending along their thicker sections, whereby the shims can be detached from the sheet either individually or in multiples. The shims may have pockets defining nailing portions of reduced thickness which minimize the grasp of nails by the shim and allow removal of nails without damage to the shim or adjacent wood and etching to avoid uncontrolled slippage.
Abstract:
A wedge assembly for supporting automotive doors, particularly pivoted tail gate doors and sliding van doors, which is mounted between surfaces that are not horizontal so that the load applied to the assembly includes a vertical component. The assembly includes a striker member and a wedge member, the former being mounted on the vertical side pillar of an automotive door frame, and the latter being mounted on the side pillar of a pivoted tail gate or sliding door. The assembly provides both vertical and lateral support for the door and door frame and prevents misalignment between the two which can otherwise develop over the life of the vehicle.
Abstract:
A rolling support assembly having a carrier with a housing configured for lateral reception within a corresponding cavity in a sliding door for frictional reception therein in a manner precluding longitudinal movement out of the cavity. The carrier mounts and provides for vertical adjustment of a depending wheel set offset to underlie the center of weight of the door and engage a pair of wheel rails provided on an underlying track including rail protecting overlying flanges and/or members.
Abstract:
A one-way self closing gate such as may be used in retail stores, airports or libraries is provided with an inclined helical ramp mechanism by which opening of the gate also causes lifting of the gate arm relative to the gate base. When released the gate will tend to close itself under the force of gravity. To augment this gravity force a spring is provided which is compressed as the arm rises relative to the base. So that the gate does not close too quickly a screw presses a nylon slug against the turning shaft of the gate. When the gate is closed a force applied to open the gate in the contrary direction to that intended is resisted by abutment of a generously welded internal stop against a generously welded internal upright. In an alternate form this resistance function in the closed position is performed by an adjacent post positioned to intercept the motion of the moving barrier. In all cases the internal mechanism of the gate is enclosed in a housing to prevent injury to children's fingers.
Abstract:
A hinge (20) includes two hinge plates (22, 24) and a connecting hinge pin (32). A coil spring (48) supported on a bushing (44) overlies the hinge pin (32), which is free to move along its longitudinal axis (30). A cam follower (42) on the hinge pin (32) engages a cam (32) mounted to one of the hinge plates (22), so that the hinge pin (32) slides longitudinally as the hinge plates (22, 24) pivot relative to each other about the hinge pin (32). As the hinge pin (32) slides longitudinally, it axially compresses or decompresses the spring (48). The cam (32) is oriented such that pivoting of the hinge plates (22, 24) in either direction from an open position compresses the spring (48), providing a restoring force which tends to retain the hinge plates (22, 24) in the open position.
Abstract:
A guide rail has running surfaces separated by a longitudinal slit and a load bearing member carried by the same so that it may slide but not rotate and on it a closing element, preferably a door of a folding sliding door, is attached. In order to be able to secure the closing element carried by the load bearing member to the guide rail simply and quickly, the load bearing member has an elongated carriage part running in the guide rail and having a width corresponding to the longitudinal slit in the guide rail. In a hole, at a right angle to the guide rail, in the load bearing member a pin is mounted so that it may rotate but not move axially and adjacent to carriage part it has a T-head, whose width is less than the width of the longitudinal slit but whose length is greater than it. The pin is able to be locked to the load bearing member in a setting in which the head bears against the running surfaces.
Abstract:
A trolley rail system (10) for supporting and guiding a sliding cooler door (14) of a walk-in type cooler. The system has a guide rail (27) having two linear segments (29,30) and two deviation ramp portions (33,34), and an auxiliary rail (38). The system also has a leading trolley (41) and a trailing trolley (42). The leading trolley has a wheel (51) supported upon the guide rail. The trailing trolley has a primary wheel (52) supportable upon the guide rail and an auxiliary wheel (53) supportable upon the auxiliary rail.
Abstract:
The upper portion of a panel can be slidably suspended in an elongated guide rail at the underside of an elongated support by connecting the upper portion of the panel with two spaced-apart carriers each of which is provided with an upwardly extending follower including one or more pairs of rollers extending into the interior of the rail from below. The carriers can be separably attached to and are then turnable in bearings which are recessed into the upper portion of the panel, or each carrier can be provided with an anchoring device having one or more knives which penetrate into the material of the panel when a main portion of a carrier is received in a recess of the panel and the anchoring device is thereupon turned relative to its carrier. The overhead support can be provided with clips which releasably hold the panel in either of two end positions and/or with stops which can arrest the panel in a preselected end position relative to the guide rail.
Abstract:
In a window with a frame of extruded profile members the exterior side of an edge portion of a thermo pane is supported by a first flange portion of the profile member and the inside by a glazing bead connected with the frame profile member. The main frame mainly consists of wood profiles, the exterior sides of which are covered by weather-resisting coverings. A hinge member at the top of the window comprises an edge portion (28) of an extruded profile member (27) forming a hinge pivot firmly connected to the main frame portion (20) at this side and a hook-shaped wall portion (6) of the opposite frame profile member (1) forming a hinge blade. At one of the other sides of the window means are provided to ensure engagement of said hinge pivot and hinge blade forming portions in the closed position of the window. Such means may comprise a sliding block (31) arranged displaceably in a track in the frame profile member, which block can be moved between a position opposite a retaining device anchored in the main frame structure for permanently securing the frame in case of a fixed window and a position in which it can be connected to a motion transfer member which is guided in a recess in the wood profile of the main frame for complete accommodation of the motion transfer member in the closed position of an openable window. Extruded profile members (20c, 24) may be fastened to the main frame wood profiles forming tracks (20b) for reception and movement control of accessories such as a roller blind (54), an insect screen (43) and/or a Venetian blind (51).
Abstract:
A shower stall door hinge has two members connected by a pintle and having axially aligned sleeves. The sleeves of one member with one notch at one end which can be engaged by a radial pin in a radial bore of the pintle. In one of the other sleeves, a radial throughbore is provided to allow an anchoring pin to be inserted to lock that sleeve and its hinge member to the pintle when a fixed rest position for the door is to be defined by engagement of the pin in the notch. In the absence of the stop pin, a pair of washers flank the intermediate sleeve can be provided to allow free swinging of the hinge members.
