Belts used in agricultural applications, and particularly belts used by hay balers for forming hay into bales, have a tendency to delaminated and crack along their cut longitudinal edges. The belt disclosed herein utilizes a folded fabric core surrounded by an appropriate elastomeric material to form an endless belt. The folded fabric core forms a folded edge along each longitudinal edge of the belt when the fabric core is folded twice to form a three-ply belt. These folded edges strengthened the longitudinal edges of the belt and provided a greater resistance to delamination and cracking.

Disclosed herein is an adjustable endless belt particularly adapted for use in high speed power transmission and commonly termed a fan belt. The belt is comprised of a length of flexible and durable polymeric material, having a central longitudinal channel extending therethrough and a length of flexible and durable cord slightably disposed within the channel and extending the length thereof. The desired belt size is determined by cutting the length of polymeric material with the cord contained therein to the desired length, pulling a portion of the cord from one end of the length polymeric material, applying an adhesive to the exposed cord and the ends of the polymeric material and inserting the exposed cord within the open channel then defined by the other end of the length of polymeric material.

A simplified strand storage and feeding device having a rotatable spool about which a traveling yarn is transiently wound while being fed to a textile machine, utilizes a noval driving arrangement for rotation of the spool, including a pulley operatively affixed to the spool and having plural radial teeth circumferentially spaced about one side of a belt receiving recess in the pulley and a driving belt having compatible edge notches meshing with the pulley teeth. The edge notched configuration of the belt provides positively timed driving of the device while also being spliceable by mechanical interconnection of separate belt ends, so that the belt may be of non-endless form for ease of installation and breaks therein may be easily repaired by splicing. A slidably movable yarn withdrawal guide eyelet is provided for withdrawing yarn from the spool either tangentially or generally axially therefrom for operation of the device in either a positive or demand feeding mode. Two forms of pulley and spool assemblies are disclosed which eliminate the use of a separate yarn winding displacement member and are resultantly simplified, compact and less expensive than conventional devices.

A method for splicing belt ends of an endless belt, as in the field, wherein uniform tension is provided to the reinforcing members such as strands or cables in the spliced section. The respective spaced ends or sections have all belting material removed leaving each end with a laterally extending end section spaced from its adjacent main body section of the belt and interconnected only by the cable. The dressed end sections are overlapped and thence the center section of the overlapped portions are cast into a belt section with cables embedded therein. The laterally extending end sections are cut leaving two uncast sections which are then cast or molded to encapsulate the remaining bare cables to form a continuous belt by such splicing.

The belting comprises a body element and a longitudinally extending constraining element embedded in the body element.The ends 12 and 13 are preferably shaped as shown in FIG. 4 and are pressed by the apparatus against opposite faces of a heating element 21. The application of heat and pressure causes the ends of the constraining element to be displaced transversely with respect to their associated body elements, the displacement of one end taking place in the opposite direction to the displacement of the other end so that in the finished joint the ends of the constraining element form an overlapping joint embedded in the fused material of the body element.

This invention relates to a process and apparatus for joining strips of belt along their lengthwise running side edges, e.g., for repairing conveyor belts having lengthwise extending cracks, wherein the side edges of the joined strips of belt are beveled on either one or both sides, and the space between the beveled side edges is filled in by inserting a profiled fillet strip having elastic rubber properties, which is sealed in the side edges by cohesion and/or adhesion. A U-shaped frame supporting a cutting tool is provided for beveling the side edges of the belt to receive and engage with the fillet strip. Adjustable rollers on the frame contact the belt to guide the position and angle of the tool relative to the belt and to adjust the cut.

This invention relates to conveyor belts and particularly to methods for making a joint in a conveyor belt that is made from rubber or like elastomeric material, that is provided with a reinforcement constituted by at least one layer of longitudinal metal cables. In accordance with the invention, two connecting strips of longitudinal metal cables are positioned in bridge fashion over the abutting ends of the reinforcing layer of two belt portions and these strips are placed on either side of the reinforcing layer to which they are connected by a thin layer of rubber or like elastomeric material, which adheres to both of them.
