    摘要: A method for manufacturing a bevel gear member, comprises the steps of providing a bevel gear blank having a gearhead, forming gear teeth on the gearhead of the bevel gear blank by simultaneously cutting gear tooth top land, gear tooth side profile and a bottom land to form an unfinished bevel gear member using a face hobbing process, and machining at least one selected surface of the unfinished bevel gear member using the top lands of said gear teeth as a datum for centering the unfinished bevel gear member, thus forming a finished product. The method is applicable for manufacturing the bevel gear member both with shaft axially extending from the gearhead and without the shaft. The bevel gear members manufactured with this method exhibit reduced runout and require simpler, less expensive tooling.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a fixture and method for positioning and holding a gear to be machined, as for example in a ring and pinion gear set for vehicle axles. The fixture includes a base, a clamp and a locator. The base has a surface against which the gear is to be held and a bore which extends into the base from the surface of the base. The clamp is connected to the base. The locator is movably disposed in the bore of the base such that the locator is moveable between a first position wherein an end of the locator extends above the surface of the base for positioning the ring gear by aligning with a surface which defines a bore of the gear so that the clamp can be positioned to hold the ring gear and a second position to which the locator is retracted below the surface of the base so that the ring gear can be machined without interference by the locator.

    摘要: It has been hitherto customary durig machining of workpiece, such a grinding of gear wheels, to slip a roller cage over the gear wheel. The chuck jaws of the chuck then hold the workpiece by way of the rollers in a roller cage. The time concuming operation is made superfluous by a holding ring which is mounted in the chuck. The holding ring has openings near the chuck jaws, and also has in this region fixedly installed roller-cage-type segments. Input guides at the holding ring allow quick, safe and secure exchange of the workpieces.

    摘要: A hydraulic control circuit (10) for operating a loader (12) of a machine for splining an annular thin-wall sleeve of a power transmission member is disclosed as including valving (116) for communicating supply and return conduits (102,116) with load and unload cylinders (14,16) to provide loading and unloading movements. Load and unload valves (118,120) of the valving have load cycle positions where the load cylinder drives both the loading and unloading members (26,28) which clamp a thin-wall member during such movement to provide loading thereof for splining. In an unload cycle position of the valves, both the load and unload cylinders are hydraulically driven in an unloading direction opposite to the loading movement. The loading and unloading members (26,28) are moved away from each other by their associated cylinders in an index cycle of the valves to permit indexing of a load table (30) under the operation of an index valve (162) of the circuit.
