    Abstract: An engine variable camshaft timing phaser (10) includes a sprocket (12) and a planetary gear assembly (14). The sprocket (12) receives rotational drive input from an engine crankshaft. The planetary gear assembly (14) includes two or more ring gears (26, 28), multiple planet gears (24), a sun gear (22), and a wrap spring (76). One of the ring gears (26, 28) receives rotational drive input from the sprocket (12) and one of the ring gears (26, 28) transmits rotational drive output to an engine camshaft. The sun gear (22) engages with the planet gears (24). The wrap spring (76) experiences expansion and contraction exertions to permit advancing and retarding engine valve opening and closing, and to prevent advancing and retarding engine valve opening and closing.

    Abstract: A variable camshaft timing device that adjusts phase between a camshaft and a crankshaft includes a planetary gear assembly that changes an angular position of the camshaft relative to an angular position of the crankshaft; a sun gear configured to receive an output shaft of an electric motor that rotates at least a portion of the planetary gear assembly and controls phase adjustment between the camshaft and crankshaft by angularly displacing the camshaft with respect to the crankshaft; and a hydraulic lock (82) that releasably engages a portion of the variable camshaft timing device (10) in response to force applied by pressurized fluid thereby selectively preventing rotation of the camshaft relative to the crankshaft.

    Abstract: In a housing, accommodated are an internal gear, an external gear, an eccentric axis member and an Oldham coupling member. The external gear is arranged with a part of external teeth being meshed with the internal gear, and supported to be rotatable about an eccentric axis, which is offset by a predetermined distance from a rotation axis in parallel therewith on a plane including the rotation axis, and the Oldham coupling member has a guide hole receiving therein a barrel axis portion of the eccentric axis member, so that the barrel axis portion is supported to be rotatable in the guide hole. On a rotating surface of the external gear facing the Oldham coupling member, held are shaft members, about which slide members are supported to be rotatable, so that the Oldham coupling member is supported to be slidable relative to the external gear through the slide members.

    Abstract: A cam phasing control motor assembly, including: an electric motor with a hollow drive shaft; an actuating pin passing through the hollow drive shaft; an engagement feature; and a displacement assembly. For a camshaft locking mode: the displacement assembly displaces the actuating pin in a first axial direction to non-rotatably connect the engagement feature with a bolt non-rotatably connected to a camshaft; and the camshaft is arranged to non-rotatably connect to an input gear for a gearbox phasing unit, the input gear arranged to receive torque from an engine. For a phase adjusting mode: the displacement assembly displaces the actuating pin in a second axial direction, opposite the first axial direction, to disconnect the engagement feature from the bolt; and the camshaft is arranged to rotate with respect to the input gear.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method of controlling an electronic continuously variable valve timing (CVVT) is provided. The apparatus includes a sensor disposed in a motor facing a reducer and an intelligent motor controller. The sensor determines a rotation speed of a first and second projection of a first and second rotation member and generates a sensing signal that corresponds to an output waveform of each rotation speed and inputs the signal to an intelligent motor controller coupled to the motor. The intelligent motor controller receives the signal and separates a crank shaft and cam shaft position signal. The signals are compared to detect an actual phase angle of the suction or exhaust valve. A phase deviation between the detected, actual and predetermined target phase angle is calculated.
