Abstract: The described technology is generally directed towards a cellular network area optimizer. The area optimizer observes cellular network conditions at multiple radio access network (RAN) nodes within a target area. Based on observed conditions, the area optimizer applies a set of parameter values at the multiple RAN nodes. The set of parameter values enhances the overall throughput, while maintaining or improving connection retainability and accessibility, of the multiple RAN nodes under the observed conditions. The area optimizer learns different sets of parameter values to apply in response to different observed conditions by making parameter value adjustments and observing the effect of the adjustments on overall throughput of the RAN nodes in the target area.

Abstract: The concepts and technologies disclosed herein provide high availability and high utilization cloud data center architecture for supporting telecommunications services. According to one aspect of the concepts and technologies disclosed herein, a 4-site model of application placement within the cloud computing environment provides 37.5% resource utilization with site availability of five 9s (99.999%) and virtual machine availability of five 9s. According to another aspect of the concepts and technologies disclosed herein, a 3-site model of application placement within the cloud computing environment provides 66% resource utilization with site availability of five 9s and virtual machine availability of five 9s. Abstract: The disclosed technology is directed towards associating a distributed unit (a baseband function) with a radio unit, corresponding to a service area, when the radio unit transitions from an idle state to an active state with respect to serving user equipment. When an idle radio unit receives a message requesting connection from a formerly idle user equipment, or user equipment to be served due to a handover, the message triggers assignment of a distributed unit to the radio unit, whereby the radio unit becomes active to serve the user equipment. If insufficient distributed unit capacity exists, a new distributed unit is dynamically instantiated and assigned to the radio unit. When a radio unit transitions from active to idle, the radio unit is disassociated from the distributed unit. If a distributed unit is not associated with any radio unit, the distributed unit is deactivated to reduce resource consumption.

Abstract: An eNodeB or other cell access point device can receive demand data from mobile devices served by the cell. The demand data can represent an estimate of demand over a future period for network resources (e.g., bandwidth). The cell can aggregate this demand data and determine price data for the time period or for various intervals of the time period, then transmit the price data to the mobile devices. The price data can operate as a collaborative approach to scheduling traffic. For example, data (e.g., delay tolerant data) can be shifted (e.g., delayed for a few seconds) based on an examination of the price data in conjunction a determined priority of the data. Such can be applicable to data traffic not traditionally thought of as delay tolerant such as streaming video or web browsing, and can be accomplished without negatively impacting the quality of service or experience of the client.

Abstract: According to one aspect disclosed herein, a system can include a set of node peers, including a first subset implemented in software and a second subset implemented in hardware. The first subset can include a software node. The second subset can include a hardware node that includes a hardware cache, a processor, and a memory that stores computer-executable instructions. The hardware node can receive, from a network, a packet, and can determine if data that identifies a path associated with the packet is stored in the hardware cache. If not, the hardware node can query the software node to identify the path associated with the packet, and can receive, in response from the software node, the data that identifies the path, which then can be stored in the hardware cache. The hardware node can forward, along the path, the packet to a network element.

Abstract: Concepts and technologies are disclosed herein for an application deployment engine. A processor that executes an application deployment engine can receive an application request. The processor can obtain network topology data that indicates availability of resources of a data center, an application template associated with the application, and a running time during which an application placement plan is to be identified out of a large number of placement scenarios within the running time. The application template can describe an application flow path associated with the application. The processor can identify the application placement plan, where the application placement plan can include an optimal placement of the application at the data center, before a given running time expires by pruning the large search space. The processor can generate a command to effect deployment of the application in accordance with the application placement plan.

Abstract: Virtual redundancy for active-standby cloud applications is disclosed herein. A virtual machine (“VM”) placement scheduling system is disclosed herein. The system can compute, for each standby VM of a plurality of available standby VMs, a minimum required placement overlap delta to meet an entitlement assurance rate (“EAR”) threshold. The system can compute a minimum number of available VM slots for activating each standby VM to meet the EAR threshold. For each standby VM of a given application, the system can filter out any server of a plurality of servers that does not meet criteria. If a given server meets the criteria, the system can add the given server to a candidate list; sort, in descending order, the candidate list by the minimum required placement overlap delta and the number of available virtual machine slots; and select, from the candidate list of servers, a candidate server from atop the candidate list.
