摘要： An interface which enables a LAN connected workstation to concurrently communicate with a plurality of computer platforms having respective network architectures over the same physical connection. The interface receives data from a LAN connection, examines the data and identifies the format being used. Based on the identified format, the interface determines the appropriate destination for the data and sends the data to that destination. Additionally, the interface enables a workstation running XNS software to run terminal emulation programs at the increased speed available from a LAN connection by enhancing the XNS protocol with (1) message segmentation and reassembly, (2) maximum packet size negotiation and (3) LAN address discovery.

摘要： A jumper cable apparatus to interconnect two batteries is described. The apparatus has a first and second connecting means that releasably engage each other. The first and second connecting means have a polarity-sensitive and current-limiting circuit within each connecting means with one or more colored LEDs, a current-limiting resistor and a piezoelectric alarm. The circuits also indicate when one of the batteries may have an open or short cell. The second connecting means has an electrically insulative, translating block means to reduce the chance of accidental contact with the interior of the connecting means and to reduce the chance of arcing outside of the electrically insulated housing and block means. The apparatus may have an extension cable apparatus to assist jumping the batteries when access to the batteries may be difficult. The housings of the connecting means have bosses and slots to aid in the alignment of the housings and to align the positive cables when the housings are interconnected.

摘要： A plotter having the capability of unattended operation incorporates several innovations. An X-axis dual motor drive mechanism moves the plotting chart through the plotter using two independently controlled motors driving respective individual friction drives at either side of the chart. An automatic chart alignment mechanism aligns the chart with the plotter X-axis using the X-axis dual motor drive for swiveling of the chart as necessary and a sensor to detect and correct the position of the chart. A chart cutting mechanism allows chart stock supplied in roll form to be cut to a desired length for a plot using a knife assembly carried by the pen carriage like a pen. A cut chart handling mechanism enables cut charts to be retrieved and neatly stored.

摘要： A torsional-mode resonator is produced by using an extensional mode transducer on a piece of material such as a metal bar where the transducer lies at an angle between the longitudinal axis of the material and the transverse axis. Placing the midpoint of the transducer at approximately the midpoint of the material such as the bar, optimizes the torsional effect.
