    Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for user-plane LWA PDU routing. In one novel aspect, LTE PDU packets are routed through a WLAN AP to a UE by encapsulation of the data packets. In one embodiment, a bridge/VLAN architecture is used. The UE identifies one or more Ethernet Frames received the WLAN interface as containing the PDCP PDUs by decoding the EtherType. In another embodiment, the WLAN terminated tunneling is used by decoding the EtherType of indicating the PDCP type. In another novel aspect, an UE-terminated tunneling is created. In one embodiment, the IP tunneling is used. In another embodiment, the GRE tunneling is used. The GRE header contains a KEY field to identify the packets as being the LWA packets. In yet another embodiment, the IPSec tunneling is used. The SPI of the header is used to identify the packets as being the LWA data packets.

    Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for efficient bandwidth adaptation for wideband carrier. In one novel aspect, the UE starts a BWP timer upon detecting one or more BWP timer starting triggering events, resets the BWP timer upon detecting BWP resetting triggering events, and switches to the default BWP upon expiration of the BWP timer. The BWP timer starting triggering events comprises decoding a command to switch away from the default BWP, the detection of end of DL data transmission in DRX mode. In another novel aspect, the UE only decodes the DCI indication for active BWP switching in the first three OFDM symbols of a subframe or a slot. In yet another novel aspect, when the SPS is configured for the serving cell for a UE with multiple BWPs, the SPS is configured for all the BWPs accordingly.

    Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for virtual carrier operation in wireless systems with large carrier bandwidth. In one novel aspect, virtual carrier (VC) with a block of physically contiguous radio resources within a component carrier is configured. In one embodiment, the UE configures a downlink (DL) common virtual carrier (CVC) and an uplink (UL) CVC, which carry control information for the UE, and one or more DL/UL dedicated VCs (DVCs), which carry data services. In one embodiment, the UE obtains the CVC configuration information including the channel bandwidth and the physical location through system information. In another embodiment, the UE obtains DVC configuration through a RRC-layer signaling. In another novel aspect, the UE obtains a VC configuration switch command through either a MAC signal or a PHY signal, and subsequently reconfigures one or more configured VCs based on the received switch command.

    Abstract: A method of uplink shaping and extending UE in RRC Idle Mode is proposed. The UE processes a data packet to be sent to the network. The data packet is associated with a traffic type. If the data packet belongs to a normal traffic type, then the UE enters RRC Connected mode and thereby transmitting the data packet to the network. If the data packet belongs to a background traffic type, then the UE buffers the data packet and the UE is prohibited from entering RRC Connected mode until a triggering condition is satisfied for uplink transmission. The proposed mechanism achieves power saving by reducing the activity of uplink transmission. In addition, the proposed mechanism also reduces signaling overhead to enhance network efficiency.

    Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for on-demand SI request procedure. In one novel aspect, the RACH procedure is used for one-demand SI information updates through unicast. In one embodiment, the UE sends an embedded SI request message in Msg3 requesting one or more on-demand SI including a UE ID. The SI response and the information of the requested SI are included in the Msg4 or in a separate unicasted message. In another embodiment, one or more assistant information is included in Msg3 or are associated with the preamble in Msg1. In another novel aspect, the preamble of the Msg1 is associated with a group X of SIB. Upon detecting the failure of transmission of the SI request, the UE monitors and receives updated SI information of the whole group X through a broadcast channel.

    Abstract: In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may be a UE. The UE receives a radio bearer configuration. The UE also configures, based on the received radio bearer configuration, a radio bearer including a first logical channel on a first carrier and a second logical channel on a second carrier. The UE further determines whether to activate the radio bearer to perform duplication. In response to a determination to activate the radio bearer to perform duplication, the UE communicates a first packet on the first logical channel and communicates a duplicated first packet on the second logical channel.

    Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for on-demand system information (SI) delivery. In one novel aspect, an indicator in the minimum system information (MSI) indicates whether an SI or an SI group is delivered with broadcast or unicast. In one embodiment, the UE receives a MSI, obtains from the MSI the other SI (OSI) delivery mode indicator, and sends an on-demand SI request if the OSI delivery mode indicates the unicast delivery mode, otherwise acquires OSI information in a predefined or scheduled period if the OSI delivery mode indicates the broadcast delivery mode. In one embodiment, the delivery mode is unicast and the SI request is sent at a timing or resource explicitly configured in a SI change notification message. In another embodiment, the delivery mode is broadcast and updated SI is obtained based on the scheduling information included in the SI change notification message.

    Abstract: In order to establish a RRC connection and perform data transmission over an established DRB, a UE is required to complete a network entry procedure. For control plane latency (CPL), besides a random-access procedure, UE triggers two 3-way handshakes with eNB for RRC setup procedure and with MME for NAS setup procedure, which comprises a sequential execution of a list of individual signaling and processing. In one novel aspect, for latency reduction, the sequential execution is broken as to allow overlapping of the two procedures, e.g. lump RRC and NAS request under a new flexible RAN architecture, i.e. eNB/MME of the new RAT can be collocated. Lump request also requires certain SNR, so a big enough uplink grant can be scheduled. For the responses, out-of-sequence delivery is also possible as long as the execution dependency is clearly specified.
