    摘要: A method and system for implementing hybrid automatic repeat request (H-ARQ)-assisted automatic repeat request (ARQ) in a wireless communication system are disclosed. When an H-ARQ negative acknowledgement (NACK)-to-positive acknowledgement (ACK) error occurs, the H-ARQ receiver sends an H-ARQ NACK-to-ACK error indicator to the H-ARQ transmitter unless a maximum retransmission limit has reached, a maximum time for delivery has expired or a lifespan of the failed packet has expired. The H-ARQ transmitter sends a local NACK to the ARQ transmitter so that the failed packet is recovered at an ARQ level. The H-ARQ receiver sends a local NACK to the ARQ receiver if the H-ARQ receiver does not receive the failed packet before certain conditions occur. The ARQ receiver may send a status report to the ARQ transmitter for recovery of the failed packet.

    摘要: A wireless network provides controlled wireless communications with multi-mode wireless WTRUs. The wireless network has at least one base station having a transceiver operating in an infrastructure communication mode with multi mode WTRUs and a controller that transmits control signals via infrastructure communications with a WTRU that control peer-to-peer mode communications of that WTRU with other WTRUs. A WTRU has transceiver components configured for selective operation in an infrastructure communication mode with a network base station and in a peer-to-peer communication mode with other WTRUs. The WTRU also has a transceiver controller configured to selectively control peer-to-peer mode communications with other WTRUs based on communication signals received in infrastructure communications with a network base station. Preferably, the transceiver controller is configured to control the transceiver components to switch between infrastructure communication mode and peer-to-peer communication mode based on Quality of Service criteria.

    摘要: The present invention is a method and apparatus for dynamically adjusting deferred transmission level in a wireless communication system implementing carrier sense multiple access/collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) mechanism. An access point (AP) and a station (STA) measure signal strength from an associated STA and AP and neighboring APs and adjust the deferred transmission level in accordance with the measurement results. If the energy level of the signals transmitted from the associated AP or STA is higher than energy level of signals transmitted from neighboring APs by a predetermined threshold, the AP and STA increase the deferred transmission level. Otherwise, the AP and STA may maintain the current deferred transmission level or decrease the deferred transmission level.

    摘要: An apparatus and a method for improving packet transmission and reducing latency in VoIP over WLAN using switched beam antennas having multiple directional antenna beams are disclosed. In an access point having a switched beam antenna, or other smart antenna system, the present invention extends the coverage area of an access point for authentication and association of a new WTRU, extends the access points coverage area during in session transmissions with a WTRU, and adjusts data rates. The method also controls Contention Period (CP)/Contention Free Period (CFP) timing amongst beams emanating from an access point having a switched beam antenna, or other smart antenna system. Fast diversity switching, frame level switching, lowered data rates, and scanning multiple directional antenna beams for the optimum transmission beam are disclosed to improve beam selection and packet transmission.

    摘要: A method and system for eliminating interference caused by hidden nodes is disclosed. An initiator control message is defined for an initiator, (typically a wireless station (STA)), in order to begin an aggregate frame exchange with at least one responder. The initiator control message includes information on the queue sizes at the initiator. A responder, (typically an access point (AP)), sets up the required protection for the transmission of data by the initiator based on information on the queue sizes indicated in a field of the initiator control message using a responder control message. Other STAs that receive the responder control message set parameters for a wireless medium access accordingly. In another embodiment, multiple receiver aggregate multi-poll (MMP) and power save aggregation descriptor (PSAD) control frames are configured for transmission by a non-AP STA to provide enhanced scheduling and mitigate hidden node problems.
