Abstract: A system described herein may provide a technique for performing carrier aggregation in a wireless telecommunications network in a manner that accounts for (a) diverse licenses for different carriers across different regions, (b) network considerations in minimizing the number of times carrier aggregation is performed, and (c) user equipment (“UE”) considerations in maximizing battery life by utilizing only the carriers that are necessary to utilize. A smallest carrier (or group of carriers) may be identified as a default carriers, and other carriers or groups of carriers may be ranked in descending order, according to size. The ranked list may be iteratively used when performing carrier aggregation, in which the largest available carrier (or group of carriers) from the list may be used for carrier aggregation.

Abstract: A method may include determining that a user equipment (UE) device is a dual connectivity device capable of communicating via a Fifth Generation (5G) network and a non-5G network. The method may also include receiving, a radio resource control (RRC) connection request, establishing an RRC connection with the UE device and determining whether the first wireless station is a dual connectivity wireless station. The method may further include initiating, in response to determining that the first wireless station is not a dual connectivity wireless station, a handover of a wireless connection to the UE device from the first wireless station to a second wireless station that is a dual connectivity wireless station, or identifying, in response to determining that the first wireless station is a dual connectivity wireless station, a 5G wireless station in the 5G network to act as a serving cell for the UE device.

The device can identify, using the APH component included in the device, a user equipment route selection policy (URSP) rule, associated with the application, included in a URSP. The device can identify, using the APH component, a network slice specified by the URSP rule associated with the application and a data network specified by the URSP rule associated with the application. The device can attempt, using a modem component included in the device, to establish the data session using the network slice specified by the URSP rule associated with the application and the data network specified by the URSP rule associated with the application.

Abstract: A device determines whether an application, utilized by a user device and associated with a network, is a low latency application or a best effort application. The device designates a first network device or a second network device as a designated network device to be an IP anchor point for the application based on a set of rules. The first network device is designated as the designated network device when the application is the low latency application, or the second network device is designated as the designated network device when the application is the best effort application. The device provides, to the user device, information informing the user device that the designated network device is to be the IP anchor point for the application, and provides, to the network, information instructing the network to utilize the designated network device as the IP anchor point for the application.

Abstract: Techniques described herein may allow for the seamless and efficient use of multiple radio access technologies (“RATs”), such as 4G and 5G RATs. A virtualized base station may be used, which processes traffic sent to and/or received from a user equipment (“UE”) via 4G and 5G RATs. The virtualized base station may include separate protocol stacks for the separate RATs. One RAT may be the “master” RAT, and the protocol stack for the master RAT may communicate with a core network via a General Packet Radio (“GPRS”) Tunneling Protocol (“GTP”) tunnel. In the downlink direction, the virtual base station may determine via which RAT traffic, received from the core network, should be sent to the UE by identifying quality of service class indicators (“QCIs”) associated with the downlink traffic.

Abstract: A base station may receive repetitive data transmitted using a particular set of radio resources The base station may apply a first orthogonal pattern, assigned to a first user equipment (UE), to a segment of subframes of the received repetitive data. The base station may apply a second orthogonal pattern, assigned to a second UE, to the segment of subframes of the received repetitive data. The base station may determine first repetitive data, transmitted by the first UE using the particular set of radio resources, based on applying the first orthogonal pattern to the segment of subframes of the received repetitive data. The base station may determine second repetitive data, transmitted by the second UE using the particular set of radio resources, based on applying the second orthogonal pattern to the segment of subframes of the received repetitive data.

Abstract: Techniques described herein may be used to manage a wireless telecommunications network that is subject to carrier restrictions. In a handover procedure, a source base station may assign an alternative primary carrier to a user device if the current primary carrier (or a secondary carrier thereof) is prohibited by a target base station. An unpaired downlink carrier may be aggregated to the alternative primary carrier as a supplemental downlink (SDL) carrier. New primary carriers may be created by joining unpaired downlink carriers with unpaired uplink carriers. New primary carriers may include a high frequency downlink carrier and a low frequency uplink carrier. New primary carriers may be allocated to wireless devices within a coverage area based on device type and/or a signal propagation quality of each wireless device.
