    Abstract: A method for transmitting data through a multi-media communication network includes converting transmission entities into data symbols at a first communication device, transmitting the data symbols from the first communication device to a second communication device through at least two different types of communication media using only lower PHY layers of the at least two different types of communication media, and converting the data symbols into transmission entities at the second communication device. A network implementing a universal data link includes a first communication device configured to convert transmission entities into data symbols, a second communication device configured to convert the data symbols into transmission entities, at least a first communication medium and a second communication medium communicatively coupled between the first communication device and the second communication device, and a first physical-layer translator configured to translate data symbols without converting the data symbols into transmission entities.

    Abstract: Systems and methods presented herein provide for an eNodeB operating in an RF band comprising a conflicting wireless technology. One exemplary eNodeB assigns an ID to a UE, processes a scheduling request for UL data from the UE, processes another scheduling request for second UL data from the UE, determines priorities of the first and second UL data based on priority indicators in the scheduling requests, and grants time and frequency for the UE to transmit the first and second UL data. The eNodeB also waits until the UE performs an LBT operation. The LBT determines whether the granted time and frequency are occupied by another wireless system comprising a different wireless technology. The eNodeB also determines that the first UL data is stale, and transmits the ID to the UE to reserve the granted time and frequency for the second UL data when unoccupied by the other wireless system.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a dynamic-PKI social Certificate Authority (CA) system and method. The present system and method generates and issues certificates at deployment time instead of manufacture time. In an embodiment, the system and method utilizes an interface to initiate a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) and generates and signs the CSR with a public key. The signed CSR is then securely transmitted to a Certificate Signing Request Processor (CSRP), which undergoes an optional verification process and is then processed to return a signed cert. The signed cert is then directly or indirectly provided to the device for provisioning into the network.

    Abstract: A transmitter is configured to transmit data to a receiver over a communications network. The transmitter includes a memory for storing computer-executable instructions and a processor in operable communication with the memory. The processor is configured to (i) collect spectrum data of a spectral band over a first sampling interval, and (ii) store the collected spectrum data in the memory. The transmitter further includes a common path distortion (CPD) detection unit configured to (i) sample the collected spectrum data, over a second sampling interval less than the first sampling interval, for a plurality of sub-bands within the spectral band, (ii) analyze the spectral band and each sub-band for indications of common path distortion, and (iii) inject a test signal configured for detection at a headend of the communications network. The transmitter further includes a modem portion configured to operably communicate with the headend and the receiver.

    Abstract: A scheduling unit is provided for managing upstream message allocation in a communication network. The scheduling unit includes a processor configured to determine (i) a number of channels communicating in one direction stream of the communication network, and (ii) a MAP interval duration of the communication network. The scheduling unit further includes a media access control (MAC) domain configured to (i) calculate a staggered allocation start time for each separate channel of the number of channels, and (ii) assign a different allocation start time, within the MAP interval duration, to each separate channel.

    Abstract: A skew compensation system for a coherent optical communication network includes a transmitter modulator having a first driver input for receiving a first signal from a first channel, a second driver input for receiving a second signal from a second channel, a source input for receiving a continuous wave source signal, and a modulation output in communication with an optical transport medium of the network. The system further includes a tunable delay line disposed between the second channel and the second driver input for inserting a pre-determined training sequence onto the second signal prior to the second driver input, and a processor for determining a skew amount between the second signal at the second driver input and the first signal at the first driver input, calculating a pre-compensation value corresponding to the skew amount, and reducing the skew amount at the modulation output according to the pre-compensation value.

    Abstract: An optical network communication system utilizes a coherent passive optical network (PON). The system includes an optical line terminal (OLT) having a downstream transmitter and an upstream receiver system configured for time-wavelength division coherent detection. The system further includes a splitter in operable communication with the OLT, and a plurality of optical network units (ONUs) in operable communication with the splitter. Each of the plurality of ONUs is configured to (i) receive downstream coherent burst signals from the OLT, and (ii) transmit at least one upstream burst signal to the OLT. The upstream receiver system further includes a power control module and a local oscillator (LO) configured to generate an optical LO signal The power control module is configured to adaptively control, in real-time, a power level of the optical LO signal.
