Abstract:
Systems and methods for creating, maintaining, and making available Communication Detail Records (CDRs) containing media for communications in controlled-environment facilities are disclosed. In some embodiments, a method may include enabling, at least in part via one or more communication systems, a communication between two or more parties, where at least one of the two or more parties is a resident of a controlled-environment facility, and where the resident operates a communication device disposed within the controlled-environment facility. The method may also include creating, at least in part via the one or more communication systems, a CDR associated with the communication, where the CDR includes or references a digital media file.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for providing emergency communications within controlled-environment facilities are disclosed. In some embodiments, a method may include providing a communication platform. The communication platform may be configured to, in a first mode of operation, enable communications between devices (e.g., telephones, etc.) operated by residents (e.g., inmates, etc.) of a controlled environment facility (e.g., jail, prison, etc.) and devices (e.g., telephones, etc.) operated by non-residents of the controlled environment facility. The method may also include switching the communication platform from the first mode of operation to an emergency mode of operation. In the emergency mode of operation, the communication platform may be configured to enable an emergency communication from a first device operated by a resident of the controlled environment facility to a second device controlled by emergency response personnel (e.g., hostage negotiator, counselor, police officer, etc.).
Abstract:
A controlled-environment facility paid network-based activity controller, or the like, searches for paid network-based activity opportunities and determines a particular resident of the controlled-environment facility is eligible to participate in a particular activity. If, in accordance with rules and procedures of the controlled-environment facility, the resident is allowed to participate in the activity, an offer is made, on a personal controlled-environment facility resident communication and/or media device of the resident, for the resident to participate in the activity and/or to invite a non-resident to participate in an activity. The resident, and/or non-resident, is presented access to the activity, on the resident's or a non-resident device, in response to acceptance of the option to participate. Interaction, by the resident, via the device, is enabled to carry out the activity. Payment for participation by the resident and/or non-resident is collected and the resident compensated according to the facility rules and procedures.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for detecting illicit activity based on body language features identified during a video visitation session or video communication are described herein. In some embodiments, a system may include a processor and a memory coupled to the processor, the memory having program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution by the processor, cause the system to: analyze a video communication between a first party and a second party, where the analysis is configured to detect a body language feature that indicates an event taking place during the communication; and create an electronic record identifying the communication as containing the event.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for controlling access to one or more media devices that may be shared among multiple users, such as multiple residents in a controlled-environment facility, are described herein. In some embodiments, a method includes operating at least one computer system. Operating the at least one computer system includes checking out a media device. Checking out the media device comprises enabling the media device for use for a first duration of a first timer. Operating the at least one computer system further includes, upon expiration of the first duration of the first timer, disabling use of the media device, and checking in the media device. The media device is prohibited from being checked out for a second duration of a second timer.
Abstract:
An investigative system uses positioning information, such as global position system information, from a non-resident device used for communication with a correctional facility inmate. Therein, a correctional facility communications application program upon installation on a non-resident communication device, prompts the non-resident to grant a waiver for an investigative data aggregation and analysis system associated with at least one correctional facility to access positioning information provided by the non-resident communication device, and prompts the non-resident to grant location reporting permission on the non-resident communication device, prior to use of the non-resident communication device to communicate with a correctional facility inmate. The investigative data aggregation and analysis system, thereafter, captures position data collected by the non-resident communication device. The investigative data aggregation and analysis system may analyze captured position data for a location of an event of investigative interest and provide an alert to an investigator, with the location.
Abstract:
A controlled-environment facility and/or communications management system interface accepts definition of a digital bulletin board message directed to at least one controlled-environment facility resident, accepts assignment of a priority for displaying the digital bulletin board message on the digital bulletin board and a schedule for display of the digital bulletin board message and accepts assignment of the digital bulletin board message to controlled-environment resident communication and/or media device(s) disposed in the controlled-environment facility. The digital bulletin board message(s) are received by the controlled-environment resident communication and/or media device(s) to which the digital bulletin board message is assigned, and are displayed by the controlled-environment resident communication and/or media device(s) to which the digital bulletin board message(s) are assigned, in accordance with the assigned priority and the schedule for display of the digital bulletin board message(s).
Abstract:
Dynamic controlled-environment facility resident media broadcasting services transmit, via a controlled-environment facility local area network, a controlled-environment facility wireless media channel within a controlled-environment facility, playing a playlist available to controlled-environment facility residents to listen to, on respective personal controlled-environment facility resident media devices of the residents. An option for one of the residents to control content of the playlist and/or an option to suggest content for the playlist is offered on the respective personal resident media devices of the residents. Content of the playlist may be adjusted based on suggestions by the residents, such as in response to no resident accepting the offer to control content of the playlist. However, acceptance of the offer to control content of the playlist, from a particular resident results in the particular resident being provided control of the content of the playlist on the personal resident media device of that particular resident.
Abstract:
Systems, devices and methods are disclosed for controlling and incentivizing the use of software-based services that are made available to residents of controlled-environment facilities. Residents are assigned a communication device that is used to connect to a communication system provided to residents by a controlled-environment facility. Via the assigned communication device, the resident is provided with various software modules, such as visitation software, entertainment software and educational software. The provided software modules may designated as either incentivized or restricted. A restricted module, such as a visitation module or gaming module, is disabled until the resident has been authorized to use the module. The communication device is configured to track the resident's use of incentivized modules, such as education modules. The resident may enable a restricted module for a limited duration by meeting thresholds of use of an incentivized module, such completing milestones provided by the education module.
Abstract:
A communication system comprises a network configured to support data, voice, and video communications and a docking station coupled to the network and configured to provide data connections to a personal computer wireless device, wherein the personal computer wireless device is configured to communicate with the docking station using light communication. A method for accessing the communication system comprises connecting a personal computer wireless device to a docking station using light communication and identifying a current location of the personal computer wireless device based upon LC with the docking station or an LC access point. One or more selected applications may be enabled or disabled on the personal computer wireless device based upon the current location.
