Abstract: Crosslinkable polymeric compositions comprising (a) 10 to 99 weight percent of an ethylene-based interpolymer having the following properties: (i) a density of 0.93 g/cm3 or less, (ii) a high-shear viscosity (V100) at 190° C. and 10% strain of 1,200 Pa-s or less, and (iii) a shear thinning ratio (V0.1/V100) at 190° C. and 10% strain of at least 8; and (b) 0 to less than 10 weight percent of a filler, where the ethylene-based interpolymer is not prepared in a high-pressure reactor. Such crosslinkable polymeric compositions may be employed as insulation layers in flexible power cables.

Abstract: A high pressure, free radical polymerization process to form an ethylene-based polymer, the process comprising at least the following step: polymerizing a reaction mixture comprising ethylene, using a polymerization system comprising the following: (A) a reactor configuration comprising at least one reactor that comprises at least two reaction zones, a first reaction zone (reaction zone 1) and an ith reaction zone (where i≥2); wherein the ith reaction zone is the last reaction zone, and wherein i is the total number of reaction zones; (B) at least two ethylene-based feed streams, a first ethylene-based feed stream and an nth ethylene-based feed stream, wherein the first ethylene-based feed stream is sent to the first reaction zone, and the nth ethylene-based feed stream is the last ethylene based feed stream sent to the reactor configuration; wherein n≤i; and RZn/RZ1 does not equal 1.0, where RZ1=mole fraction of make-up ethylene in the first ethylene-based feed stream to the first reaction zone; where RZn=mole fraction of make-up ethylene in the last ethylene-based feed stream sent to the reactor configuration; (C) a control system to control the percentage of the make-up ethylene in the first ethylene-based feed stream, and the percentage of the make-up ethylene in the nth ethylene-based feed stream; and wherein at least one reaction zone receives a CTA make-up feed stream comprising an alpha-olefin, and wherein the alpha-olefin has a chain transfer activity constant (Cs) value ≤0.10, and wherein the chain transfer activity constant (Cs) is measured at 1360 atm, 130° C.

The fluid composition may be useful, for example, as a dielectric fluid and/or as a heat transfer fluid in transformers and other electrical device applications.

Abstract: Crosslinkable polymeric compositions comprising: (a) a polymer blend comprising: (1) 10 to 94 weight percent, based on the total weight of the crosslinkable polymeric composition, of an ethylene-based interpolymer having the following properties: (i) a density of 0.93 g/cm3 or less, (ii) a melt index (I2) at 190° C. of greater than 0.2 g/10 minutes, and (iii) a shear thinning ratio (V0.1/V100) at 190° C. and 10% strain of less than 8; and (2) 5 to 90 weight percent, based on the total weight of the crosslinkable polymeric composition, of a high-pressure polyethylene; and (b) 0 to less than 40 weight percent, based on the total weight of the crosslinkable polymeric composition, of a filler, where the ethylene-based interpolymer of component (a) is not prepared in a high-pressure reactor or process. Additionally, the polymer blend has the following properties: (i) a shear thinning ratio (V0.1/V100) at 190° C. and 10% strain of at least 5, (ii) a high-shear viscosity (V100) at 190 C and 10% strain of less than 1,300 Pa·s, (iii) a melt strength of at least 4 centiNewtons at 190° C., and (iv) a flexural modulus, 2% secant, of less than 25,000 psi. Such crosslinkable polymeric compositions may be employed as insulation layers in flexible power cables.
