Abstract: An apparatus may configure an illuminator to illuminate a scene with non-white light and control a camera to capture, in a plurality of color channels of the camera, a frame of the scene illuminated with the non-white light. The apparatus may adjust a signal of a color channel of the camera in the frame of the scene based on the non-white light.

Abstract: A medical system comprises a memory for receiving intraoperative external image data for at least a portion of a patient anatomy. The memory further receives intraoperative pose data for a medical instrument of the medical system. The medical system further comprises a processor configured for generating a first model of the patient anatomy. The processor is further configured for, based on the intraoperative external image data, intraoperatively generating an updated model of the patient anatomy that is different from the first model. The updated model includes an anatomical structure that is not present in the first model.

Abstract: A computer-assisted medical device is configured and used to endoluminally navigate to a location in the gastrointestinal system and there treat certain body lumen wall areas while avoiding other body lumen wall areas. Embodiments ablate the inner mucosal layer and sub-mucosal nerve plexus of the stomach, duodenum and jejunum to effect treatment of insulin resistance and metabolic disorders, such as Type II diabetes (T2D), polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), congestive heart failure (CHF) and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Various sensors are used to assist a clinical operator to navigate from the mouth through the pyloric sphincter and into and through the duodenum and/or jejunum. Various sensors are used to map and identify portions of the duodenum and/or jejunum. Various lumen wall ablation devices and methods are described. Various post-treatment assessments are described.

Abstract: A method of registering sets of anatomical data for use during a medical procedure is provided herein. The method may include accessing a first set of model points of a patient anatomy of interest and intra-operatively acquiring a second set of model points by visualizing a portion of the anatomical surface in the patient with a vision probe. The method may further include extracting system information, including kinematic information from a robotic arm of a medical system and/or setup information, and generating an initial seed transformation based on the extracted system information. Thereafter, the method may include applying the initial seed transformation to the first set of model points and generating a first registration between the first set of model points and the second set of model points to permit model and actual information to be viewed and used together by an operator.

Abstract: A method of planning a procedure to deploy an interventional instrument comprises receiving a model of an anatomic structure. The anatomic structure includes a plurality of passageways. The method further includes identifying a target structure in the model and receiving information about an operational capability of the interventional instrument within the plurality of passageways. The method further comprises identifying a planned deployment location for positioning a distal tip of the interventional instrument to perform the procedure on the target structure based upon the operational capability of the interventional instrument.

Abstract: A system comprises a medical instrument, including a sensing tool, and a processing unit configured to apply a segmentation function using a first seed to a three-dimensional image of a patient anatomy to create a model; receive position data from the instrument while navigating the patient anatomy; register a position of the instrument with the model; receive data related to the patient anatomy from the sensing tool; and update the model in response to detecting a difference between the model and the patient anatomy. Updating the model includes reapplying the segmentation function using a second seed corresponding to a passageway of the patient anatomy that is not present within the model. Detecting the difference between the model and the patient anatomy includes analyzing temporal information obtained from shape data generated by the sensing tool while the instrument traverses portions of the patient anatomy not represented by the model.

Abstract: Methods and systems for registering a manipulator assembly and independently positionable surgical table are provided herein. In one aspect, methods include reading a fiducial marker on the surgical table with a sensor associated with the manipulator assembly and localizing the manipulator assembly and surgical table with respect to a common reference frame. Methods may further include translating a 3D configuration of the surgical table to a 2D frame of reference so as to estimate a 3D pose of the surgical table relative the manipulator assembly for use in coordinating movements therebetween.

Abstract: A method for image segmentation comprises receiving volumetric image data for an anatomical region and generating a first volumetric patch from the volumetric image data. The method also comprises generating a second volumetric patch from the first volumetric patch by weighting a plurality of volumetric units in the first volumetric patch and receiving the second volumetric patch as an input to a convolutional neural network. The method also comprises conducting a down-sampling filter process and conducting an up-sampling filter process within the convolutional neural network.

Abstract: An operator telerobotically controls tools to perform a procedure on an object at a work site while viewing real-time images of the work site on a display. Tool information is provided in the operator's current gaze area on the display by rendering the tool information over the tool so as not to obscure objects being worked on at the time by the tool nor to require eyes of the user to refocus when looking at the tool information and the image of the tool on a stereo viewer.

Abstract: A method performed by a computing system comprises receiving a fluoroscopic image of a patient anatomy while a portion of a medical instrument is positioned within the patient anatomy. The fluoroscopic image has a fluoroscopic frame of reference. The portion has a sensed position in an anatomic model frame of reference. The method further comprises identifying the portion in the fluoroscopic image and identifying an extracted position of the portion in the fluoroscopic frame of reference using the identified portion in the fluoroscopic image. The method further comprises registering the fluoroscopic frame of reference to the anatomic model frame of reference based on the sensed position of the portion and the extracted position of the portion.
