摘要: The present invention relates to the use of a short-acting oral hypoglycemic agent and to a novel regimen in the treatment of type 2 diabetes in which the endogenous secretion of insulin is stimulated in connection with meals by administering in connection with the meals a short-acting oral hypoglycaemic agent. Also, the present invention relates to a method of achieving significantly improvement in the glycaemic control by a combined use of repaglinide and metformin in NIDDM patients poorly controlled on metformin alone.

摘要: Method and calculations determine an individual's, or several individuals' simultaneous rates of oxygen consumption, maximum rates of oxygen consumption, heart rates, calorie expenditures, and METS (multiples of metabolic resting rate) in order to determine the amounts of work that is performed by the individual's body. A heart monitor measures the heart rate, and an accelerometer measures the acceleration of the body along one or more axes. An altimeter measures change in altitude, a glucose monitor measures glucose in tissue and blood, and thermometers, thermistors, or thermocouples measure body temperature. Data including body fat and blood pressure measurements are stored locally and transferred to a processor for calculation of the rate of physiological energy expenditure. Certain cardiovascular parameters are mathematically determined. Comparison of each axis response to the individual's moment can be used to identify the type of activity performed and the information may be used to accurately calculate total energy expenditure for each physical activity. Energy expenditure may be calculated by assigning a separate proportionality coefficient to each axis and tabulating the resulting filtered dynamic acceleration over time, or by comparison with previously predetermined expenditures for each activity type. A comparison of total energy expenditure from the current activity is compared with expenditure from a previous activity, or with a baseline expenditure rate to assess the level of current expenditure. A measure of the individual's cardio-vascular health may be obtained by monitoring the heart's responses to various types of activity and to total energy expended.

摘要: An adjustable brush for cleaning a drive or sprocket chain has a C-shaped toolhead fixed to a handle with an opposing cleaning element. The length of the handle sufficiently keeps users hands away from the chain during cleaning, and provides a means for the opposing cleaning element to clean generally inaccessible areas. The toolhead defines a chain passage recess having a plurality of inner sides. Each inner side has projecting retaining members to define a brush block cavity adapted to removably receive a brush block element such that a cleaning member formed thereon projects into the recess. Likewise, the opposing cleaning element has a pair of retaining members projecting therefrom to define a brush block cavity adapted to removably receive a brush block element. Grooves formed in sides of the brush block elements are interengageable with ridges depending from the retaining members, thereby permitting the brush block element's position to be adjusted, such that the cleaning members associated with the respective inner sides of the toolhead are thereby brought closer together to adjust the dimensions of the recess in order to conform to the size of the drive or sprocket chain.

摘要: In a method of operating a combined-cycle plant, valves (21) acting upstream of a high-pressure steam turbine (12) are completely closed in the event of load shedding. The gas-turbine group (A+8) is uncoupled from an intermediate-pressure/low-pressure steam turbine (11) in such a way that the gas-turbine group can go into island mode. In this case, the speed of the uncoupled steam turbine (11) is not greater than the speed of the gas-turbine group (A+8), and steam (16) in the flow path of a reheater (10a) belonging to the heat-recovery steam generator (10) expands freely through the intermediate-pressure/low-pressure steam turbine (11), in the course of which this expansion does not cause the speed of the gas-turbine group (A+8) to exceed its protective speed.

摘要: A composite panel comprising a core (12) and at least one outer sheet (14) which is adhesively bonded to the core is such that the composite panel (10) is shape-formed creating at least one radius of bending (24b) in the outer layer (14). The core (12) has a cellular structure and is bonded to the outer layer (14) at least by one visco-elastic adhesive layer (16) applied over the entire inner surface of the outer layer (14). The combination of the honeycomb structure of the core and the adhesive layer with the mentioned properties attaching the core to the outer sheet leads to a composite panel that may be shaped quickly and at favorable cost, without the outer layers being damaged or the stength being significantly reduced. As a result of the large area visco-elastic bonding a higher resistance to delamination, debonding due to vibration, corrosion and moisture is achieved.

摘要: The invention pertains to an oil-sealed vacuum pump (1) with a pump chamber (8, 9), with a rotor 3 rotatively mounted therein, with a bearing piece (13) delimiting the pump chamber on the drive side and with a passage (35) in the bearing piece (13) which contains a coupling piece (37) used to interlock the rotor (3) with the shaft (36) of the drive motor (4) and a sealing ring (55) to seal off the coupling piece from the passage (35) in the bearing piece (13). To simplify manufacture of the pump, the invention proposes that the interlocking connections between rotor (3) and coupling piece (37) as well as coupling piece (37) and shaft (36) are effected from the faces, and that the coupling piece (37) is a support for a rotor (46) for an oil pump (45, 46), the pump chamber (45) of which is formed in the end plate (13).
