    摘要: An automated analyzer for performing multiple diagnostic assays simultaneously includes multiple stations, or modules, in which discrete aspects of the assay are performed on fluid samples contained in reaction receptacles. The analyzer includes stations for automatically preparing a specimen sample, incubating the sample at prescribed temperatures for prescribed periods, performing an analyte isolation procedure, and ascertaining the presence of a target analyte. An automated receptacle transporting system moves the reaction receptacles from one station to the next. The analyzer further includes devices for carrying a plurality of specimen tubes and disposable pipette tips in a machine-accessible manner, a device for agitating containers of target capture reagents comprising suspensions of solid support material and for presenting the containers for machine access thereto, and a device for holding containers of reagents in a temperature controlled environment and presenting the containers for machine access thereto. A method for performing an automated diagnostic assay includes an automated process for isolating and amplifying a target analyte. The process is performed by automatically moving each of a plurality of reaction receptacles containing a solid support material and a fluid sample between stations for incubating the contents of the reaction receptacle and for separating the target analyte bound to the solid support from the fluid sample. An amplification reagent is added to the separated analyte after the analyte separation step and before a final incubation step.

    摘要: A process for the direct hydrogenation of hop resin acids in the absence of a liquid, organic solvent by reacting the hop resin acids which hydrogen in the presence of a noble metal catalyst at a temperature at which the resin acids are sufficiently fluid to allow easy mixing with the catalyst and suitably facilitate the hydrogenation reaction. Alternatively, the necessary fluidity may be achieved at relatively low temperature by subjecting the reactants to a high pressure of CO2 gas such that the quantity of this gas that dissolves into the resin is sufficient to substantially reduce its viscosity. Particularly useful applications for the process are the conversion is iso-α-acids to tetrahydroiso-α-acids and rho-iso-α-acids into hexahydroiso-α-acids. The resinous products of the hydrogenation process may be readily converted to aqueous, alkaline solutions suitable for use in brewing beer. The process may also be worked in a continuous manner, wherein hop resin acids in suitably fluid state and under high pressure are contacted with hydrogen gas and the resultant mixture passed over a bed of noble metal catalyst particles. The necessary fluidity is achieved either by heating the hop resin acid or by dissolving CO2 gas into it or a combination of both. The resinous product of the hydrogenation reaction is collected by depressurisation of the fluid exiting the catalyst bed, conveniently causing release of any excess dissolved gas.

    摘要: Detecting a wildfire and an electrical arc, which are characterized by emission of ultraviolet (UV) radiation at a given wavelength, are described using a light sensor having a pulse output responsive to the given wavelength and generating an intermediate output responsive to the pulse output in a way which tracks a trend in the pulse output, irrespective of any increase in the relative number of pulses in the pulse output that is responsive to extraneous sources other than wildfire or electrical arc. The intermediate output is generated responsive to pulses occurring within an event window that continuously terminates at present time and extends backward therefrom by a selected time duration. An alarm signal is produced based on a predetermined characteristic of the intermediate output. Packaging of the sensor and alarm arrangement is described along with photo-detection tube optimization. Further, atmospheric transmission of the detected wavelength is described.

The shell has a shell opening in fluid communication with the container opening when the shell is attached to the container. A tip is received on the shell movable between a closed position sealing the shell opening and an open position. A cover is releasably attached to the shell in a manner indicative of the tip being positioned in the closed position when the cover is attached to the shell. The cover includes rib engaging ribs for maintaining the cover tip and shell in proper alignment when the cover is attached to the shell.
