Abstract:
A translating facsimile machine includes a facsimile input receiver which feeds a facsimile input signal representative of a source language text to an optical character recognizer. The optical character recognizer converts the facsimile signal to a source natural language text signal which is then tested in a source language recognizer and, if recognized, is then processed by a translator which converts the source natural language signal to a target natural language signal. An output device such as a printer receives the target natural language signal and outputs it to a roll of paper or the like.
Abstract:
An image communication apparatus converts image data received through a communication line into bit image data to be reproduced as a visible image by means of using a data converting unit and a reproducing unit. The apparatus converts data from a data processing apparatus into bit image data to be reproduced as a visible image by means of using the data converting unit and the reproducing unit, so as to accomplish an efficient system as a whole.
Abstract:
A data encoding system having means for generating decodable data representing a facsimile number to which a document containing an image is to be sent via facsimile, a rasterizer for rasterizing the image of the document and the decodable data to generate raster data, a decoder for decoding the data after the decodable data is rasterized by the rasterizer to determine the facsimile number to which the document is to be sent, and facsimile means for sending the raster data to the facsimile number determined by the decoder. The decoder comprises a permanent memory having stored coding data which includes character data representing a plurality of characters and a unique binary code associated with each of the characters. The decodable data generator comprises a permanent memory having font data stored therein for representing each of a plurality of characters. The font data comprises, for each of the characters, a first data portion representing a human-readable representation of the character and a second data portion representing a decodable representation of the character.
Abstract:
A nonvolatile electro-optical read-only memory includes a substrate on which is printed (or otherwise inscribed) a complex symbol or "label" with a high density two-dimensional symbology, a variable number of component symbols or "codewords" per row, and a variable number of rows. Codewords in alternating rows are selected from mutually exclusive subsets of a mark pattern such as a (17,4) mark pattern. The subsets are defined in terms of particular values of a discriminator function, which is illustrated as being a function of the widths of bars and spaces in a given codeword. In the illustrated embodiment, each subset includes 929 available codewords; that, plus a two-step method of decoding scanned data, permitting significant flexibility in defining mappings of human-readable symbol sets into codewords. The memory may be used in conjunction with a scanner and a suitable control system in a number of applications, e.g., robotic operations or automated microfilm searching.
Abstract:
In this invention, a processor connected to a communication switching system i) intercepts or receives each facsimile message destined for a receiving party, ii) analyzes at least a portion of each message to collect, in addition to the called number, other routing information from the transmitted message, iii) converts the message to a different format, if necessary and iv) delivers that message to at least one of a plurality of other destination facsimile terminals based on a) the routing information gathered from the message and b) pre-arranged routing information stored in the processor and provided by the receiving party.
Abstract:
An image reading device includes an image reading device, a video memory for reading the read image and a device for controlling the reading frequency, when the video data recorded in the video memory are repeated read, so that the reading frequency will be equal to the scanning frequency of the television signals. The image read by the line sensor may be converted in this manner into video signals by a simplified operation.
Abstract:
A computer accessory for interfacing a microcomputer with a fax line includes facility for converting fax signals to Ascii form for application to a PC port, and for converting signals of Ascii form received at the PC port to image for conversion to fax signals. The accessory, which preferably is incorporated in a laser printer or copier scanner, also includes a facility for notifying an intended recipient of the reception of a fax message.
Abstract:
A system for providing an internet fax service has an engine to process a raw fax document, received for a user of the internet fax service, using digital character recognition to produce recognized text or an associated formatted text document. A conversion engine may convert the raw fax to native file format being one of a) word processor format, b) spreadsheet format, c) slide presentation format, or d) another format that can be read on a user interface. An internet server is to make the native file format document available to the user over an internet. A fax content processing unit is to perform keyword scanning of the recognized text, and then allows the user to search for stored faxes by keyword. Other embodiments are also described.
Abstract:
A head end application server is coupled to a photo-sharing server having an Internet interface. A video content network is coupled to the head end application server, and a terminal is coupled to the video content network at a location remote from the head end application server and the photo-sharing server. The photo-sharing server is configured to accept upload of digital still images via the Internet interface, and the digital still images are in a format other than MPEG I-frames. The head end application server is configured to receive a request from the terminal and, responsive to the request, to fetch the digital still images from the photo-sharing server, transcode the digital still images into MPEG I-frames, and make the MPEG I-frames available, over the video content network, for selective display via the terminal. The system can advantageously function without use of a video-on-demand server.
