    Abstract: A device for compressing a breast. The device includes a harness able to be releasably secured to a body of a user and a compression member adjustably connected to the harness for receiving the breast of the user. A control module is releasably secured to the harness for providing a pressure to the compression member for applying an equal compression force to the breast. The compression member includes a first compressing element positioned on a first side of the breast; a second compression element positioned on a second side of the breast opposite the first compressing element; and a structural member extending between the first and second compressing elements for retaining the first and second compressing elements on respective sides of the breast whereby an aperture defined by the structural member and first and second compressing elements for receiving the breast therein. The harness includes a first strap for securing the device about a waist of the user and a shoulder strap adjustably connected to the first strap for retaining the compression member aligned with the breast of the user. The structural member includes a first length adjustable structural element extending between a first end of both the first and second compressing elements and a second length adjustable structural member extending between a second end of both the first and second compressing elements. The control element includes a pump and supply line connected between the pump and both the first and second compressing elements for providing air pressure thereto.

    Abstract: A surgical fastening system includes a fastener having a plurality of individual fastener pairs each having a piercing element with a pin that pierces the tissue to be repaired and a receiver portion that interlocks with the pin of a corresponding piercing element. A fastener dispenser holds the piercing elements and receiver elements in relative juxtaposition and in a predetermined geometric configuration, such as a circle. After the tissues to be joined are positioned between the piercing and receiving elements held in the dispenser, the dispenser is adjusted to draw the elements together capturing the tissue therebetween. The dispenser then pushes the piercing elements through the tissue and into the receiving elements causing the elements to interlock. Because the anastomosed junction is formed by a plurality of independent pairs, the junction retains flexibility. When used to anastomose a tubular organ, the fastener allows radial expansion of the organ permitting peristalsis.

    Abstract: A system including an implantable fastener for fastening layers of tissue is disclosed. In one embodiment, the fastener includes a proximal anchor member and a distal anchor member each being movable from a reduced profile position to a deployed position. The anchor members are mesh structures capable of moving to the deployed position by reducing the axial spacing between opposite ends of the anchor members. Methods of treating gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) are also disclosed. One of the methods includes placing the distal anchor member through a hole formed in the wall of the esophagus and through a hole formed in the gastric wall. The distal anchor member and the proximal anchor member are then placed in their deployed positions to fasten the wall of the esophagus and the gastric wall together between the anchor members.
