    摘要: A surgical fastening system includes a fastener having a plurality of individual fastener pairs each having a piercing element with a pin that pierces the tissue to be repaired and a receiver portion that interlocks with the pin of a corresponding piercing element. A fastener dispenser holds the piercing elements and receiver elements in relative juxtaposition and in a predetermined geometric configuration, such as a circle. After the tissues to be joined are positioned between the piercing and receiving elements held in the dispenser, the dispenser is adjusted to draw the elements together capturing the tissue therebetween. The dispenser then pushes the piercing elements through the tissue and into the receiving elements causing the elements to interlock. Because the anastomosed junction is formed by a plurality of independent pairs, the junction retains flexibility. When used to anastomose a tubular organ, the fastener allows radial expansion of the organ permitting peristalsis.

    摘要: This invention describes a rivet applier and rivet clip for delivering orthopedic fasteners into a patient. The rivet applier inserts the rivet body then drives a pin into the rivet body to fix the rivet in position. The device comprises a body with a handle, trigger and applier barrel. The rivet applier contains a loader and firing pin to advance and deploy rivets. The applier barrel of the rivet applier is attached to a rivet clip into which rivets may be loaded. The rivets are contained in the body of the rivet clip and loaded into the barrel of the rivet clip through a chamber. The loader of the rivet applier advances the rivet to the end of the barrel. The firing pin advances the rivet body into final position and inserts the rivet pin into the rivet.

    摘要: A system for injecting controlled release medicinal implants has a syringe-like injector body with a lumen and plunger. A needle is attached to the injector body and receives therein an injectable implant with an internal hollow. The implant is retained in the needle by friction, which is overcome by the plunger upon dispensing. As the plunger moves from the retracted position to the deployed position, it forces a medicament previously loaded into the injector body into the implant hollow and then pushes the implant out of the needle into the creature into which the needle has been inserted. The implant may contain a filler to absorb flowable medicaments to aid in their retention within the implant. As in known implants, the medicament is released gradually depending upon the dissolution rate of the implant body which is formed from a biodegradable material. Because the medicament is loaded into the implant at the time of injection, issues concerning the reaction of the medicament with the implant material during preparation and storage are eliminated.
