Hydroscopic polymer gels can be formed by applying a water soluble or water dispersible polymer on a surface and allowing water to be sequestered from the atmosphere into the polymer. The polymer gels provides for easier next time cleaning. In addition, the surfaces of textiles and related materials can be engineered by the formation of polymer gel films thereon. Polymer gels also provide a vehicle by which sites of chemical reactions can be localized.

A cleaning assembly including a disposable cleaning implement having a cleaning element mounted to a fitment having an elongated post. The cleaning assembly includes an elongated maneuvering wand having a handle portion and a distal implement attachment end thereof. A gripping mechanism is coupled to the wand attachment end, and is configured to releasably grip the fitment post to mount the cleaning implement. The gripping mechanism and the maneuvering wand cooperate to substantially limited pivotal movement of a longitudinal axis of the fitment post, relative a longitudinal axis of the gripping mechanism to not more than about 0 degrees to about 25 degrees when the fitment post is subjected to forces radial to the longitudinal axis of the fitment post. In another aspect, the frictional drag between the sliding components is significantly reduced, enabling a tool assembly with a high axial holding force for the cleaning implement, but with a significantly lower, consumer friendly release force for the implement during release operation of the tool assembly.

An improved cleaning composition is provided for shower and tub surfaces which is of the "shower rinsing" type, requiring no scrubbing, wiping, or immediate rinsing. The composition comprises:(a) a glycoside surfactant, the total amount of said surfactant being present in a cleaning effective amount;(b) a chelating agent, said chelating agent present in an amount effective to enhance bathroom soil removal in said composition; and(c) the remainder, water. A solvent such as isopropyl alcohol may also be added. The employment of a glycoside surfactant, especially one having an HLB value of greater than 13, remarkably improves the performance of such a shower rinsing composition both with respect to surface appearance streaking and filming and also bathroom soil and soap scum removing ability.

An aerosol antimicrobial composition is provided with the following ingredients: a) an anionic polymer or prepolymer; (b) a quaternary ammonium compound, the components (a) and (b) combining to form an antimicrobially effective complex; (c) at least one water-soluble or dispersible organic solvent having a vapor pressure of at least 0.001 mm Hg at 25.degree. C., said at least one organic solvent present in a solubilizing--or dispersion--effective amount; (d) an effective amount of a propellant; and (e) the remainder, water. Further is provided a novel method of decontaminating a surface fouled with microorganisms and a dispenser for said aerosol composition. The novel composition advantageously has both disinfectancy (contact efficacy) and residual antimicrobial efficacy.
