    Abstract: A gasoline composition contains 0,5 to 6,34 grams of lead per United States gallon as an organolead compound and from 0,005 to 1 gram of nickel per United States gallon as a cyclopentadienyl compound of formula Ni Ax By Cz where A is a substituted or unsubstituted cyclopentadienyl radical, B and C are electron donating groups, x is 1 or 2, y is 1 to 4 and z is 0 or 1 to 4. The composition may also contain halohydrocarbon scavengers, and compounds of phosphorus, arsenic, antimony and bismuth. Lists of suitable compounds are given. In examples, gasolines and anti-knock compositions contain cyclopentadienyl nickel nitrosyl, butycyclopentadienyl nickel nitrosyl, methylcyclopentadienyl nickel nitrosyl, phenylcyclopentadienyl methyl nickel carbonyl, methylisopropylcyclopentadienyl ethyl nickel phosphorus trichloride, octylcyclopentadienyl phenyl nickel ammonia, indenyl nickel nitrosyl, cyclopentadienyl nickel carbonyl hydride, ethylcyclopentadienyl nickel nitrosyl, benzyl eyclopentadienyl tricyano nickel, methylcyclopentadienyl methyl nickel carbonyl, cyclopentadienyl ethyl nickel carbonyl, cyclopentadienyl phenyl nickel carbonyl or dimethylcyclopentadienyl nickel nitrosyl as the nickel compound. The lead compound is chosen from tetraethyl lead, tetramethyl lead, tetraphenyl lead, tetraoctyl lead, butyl triethyl lead, tetratolyl lead and methyltriethyl lead. Additional ingredients present in some instances are chosen from dibromobutane, dibromotoluene, ethylene dichloride and trichlorobenzene; tricresyl phosphate, trimethylphosphate, dimethylxylyl phosphate, tri-(b -chloroisopropyl) thionophosphate, tri-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate, phenyl dimethylphosphate, methyl diphenyl phosphate, trixylyl arsine, triphenyl arsine, triphenyl stibine, triethyl antimonite, tributyl bismuthine and triphenyl bismuthine.

    Abstract: A fuel comprises gasoline and a minor proportion of a mixture of a volatile lead alkyl and a volatile aliphatic phosphorus compound containing one or more halogen atoms. Phosphorus compounds referred to are halogen-containing alkyl and alkenyl phosphines, phosphates, phosphites and phosphonates, alkyl phosphonium salts, phosphine oxides, phosphonites, phosphinites, and phosphinates; compounds specified are trichloroethyl phosphate, trichlorobutyl phosphate and the corresponding bromine compounds, trichloroethyl phosphine oxide, tribromoethyl phosphine oxide and tribromophenyl phosphine oxide. Lead alkyls mentioned are tetraethyl lead, tetramethyl lead, trimethyl ethyl lead and dimethyl diethyl lead. The gasoline may consist of virgin, thermally or catalytically cracked, polymerized or alkylated hydrocarbons or mixtures thereof. Ethylene dibromide or ethylene dichloride may be added to the composition; also, 2 compounds containing phosphorus and halogen may be used in the composition, one rich in phosphorus and deficient in halogen and the other deficient in phosphorus and rich in halogen, a preferred atomic ratio of halogen to phosphorus in the composition being from 2 : 1 to 10 : 1. Other optional ingredients are anti-knock agents, dyes, other lead scavenging agents, anti-oxidants, stabilizers, metal deactivators and rust preventives.
