Abstract:
A power liftgate device for a liftgate of a vehicle having a power drive unit and a pneumatic actuator. The pneumatic actuator is pivotally coupled between the liftgate and the vehicle and exerts a force opposing retraction of the liftgate. A driven gear is fixed to the pneumatic actuator to pivot therewith and is selectively driven by the power drive unit. The liftgate assembly further includes an engaging device that is coupled to the vehicle for engaging the power drive unit with the driven gear, thereby enabling the power drive unit to drive the driven gear. Specifically, the engaging device is positionable between an engaged and a disengaged position, wherein the engaging device is operable in the engaged position to engage the power drive unit into driving connection with the driven gear. The engaging device is also operable in the disengaged position to disengage the power drive unit from the driven gear to enable the actuator to actuate freely.
Abstract:
A drive system for trunk doors, engine hoods, hatchbacks (12), doors or the like of vehicles in particular motor vehicles comprising at least one hinge (1, 2, 3, 4) and a power spring, for instance a pneumatic spring (5) assisting the opening motion. The invention provides a mechanism shifting the direction of action of the pneumatic spring (5) to attain rapid, automatic opening of the hatchback (12) following its unlocking.
Abstract:
A vehicle power liftgate cable drive has a cable drive housing. An electric motor with a motor housing and an output shaft is secured to the cable drive housing. A clutch pack with a first clutch driven by the output shaft and a second clutch driven by the first clutch, is mounted in the cable drive housing. One of the clutches in the clutch pack is a one way clutch and the other clutch is an electromagnetic clutch. A pinion gear is driven by the second clutch. An output gear is rotatably journaled on a fixed shaft and driven by the pinion gear. The cable drum is attached to the output gear. A coil spring has one end fixed to the fixed shaft and its other end attached to the cable drum. The fixed shaft is rotated to preload the coil spring in a direction that tends to wind a cable on the cable drum and then the fixed shaft is fastened to the cable drive housing. A cable is attached to the cable drum and to the liftgate. A solenoid plunger cooperates with the output gear to stop the liftgate in an intermediate position.
Abstract:
A liftgate self-closing device for a vehicle includes a power drive unit and a track drive member drivingly interconnected with the power drive unit. The power drive unit selectively drives the track drive member. A pneumatic actuator is pivotally coupled at one end to the liftgate and at the other end to the track drive member. The actuator exerts a force opposing retraction of the liftgate. The power drive unit is operable in a first and a second direction. The first direction of the power drive unit drives the track drive member such that the pneumatic actuator is lowered to a predetermined position to enable the liftgate to automatically close. The second direction of the power drive unit drives the track drive member in an opposite direction such that the pneumatic actuator is raised to a predetermined position to enable the liftgate to be opened by an operator.
Abstract:
A door hinge mechanism is easily fastened to an oven door at its top and bottom, for example, using a hook-like engagement, and providing along the length of the oven door sidewalls rigid structural members and support, and thermal isolation of the oven door sidewalls from the oven door interior.
Abstract:
A hinge mechanism is provided for use with an oven housing having side walls, a rear wall, an access opening opposite the rear wall and a door for the access opening wherein the door is movable through a plurality of positions between a closed position and an open position. The hinge mechanism includes a bracket rigidly mounted to the side wall of the oven structure for pivotally securing the door to the side wall of the oven housing. The bracket includes specifically designed camming surface along the top edge. A lever is pivotally secured to the door and includes first and second arm members. A spring having first and second ends is provided for biasing the lever toward the side wall of the oven housing. The first end of the spring is attached to the first arm member of the lever, and the second end of the spring is attached to the side wall of the oven housing adjacent the bracket. The second end of the lever includes a cam follower for engaging the camming surface of the bracket. The lever acting on the camming surface is operative to counterbalance the door so that the door can be balanced at desired positions between the door closed and open positions, and so that the door can be maintained in an unbalanced state at the ends of the door swing. The counterbalancing effect of the lever increases as the door moves from the door closed position to the door open position to match the force delivered by the spring as the spring extends due to the door moving from the door closed position to the door open position.
Abstract:
A self-contained oven door hinge assembly for releasably mounting a door on a range oven cabinet including locking surfaces arranged to prevent disengagement when the door is in a closed position, whereby the door latch mechanism normally provided in a self-cleaning oven is utilized to prevent the door from being opened or removed during high temperature operation.
Abstract:
A hinge system for a removable door for use on a baking oven. The hinge system includes a pair of hinge mechanisms, where each mechanism includes a stationary support bracket, a pivoted door guide, a separate door guide sleeve in the door for receiving the door guide, a spring-loaded hinge lever pivoted to the door guide, and resilient means between the door guide and door guide sleeve for taking out the slack or wobble of the door on the hinge mechanisms. The support bracket includes a roller assembly that cooperates with the hinge lever to provide a door guide slam-prevention protection. The back half of the hinge lever is designed to be free of the roller assembly to improve the balancing forces on the door. The combined roller assembly and support bracket is adjustably mounted from the door frame to enable the changing of the relative position of the door.
