    Abstract: A laboratory sample distribution system is presented. The system comprises a number of sample container carriers to carry one or more sample containers. Each sample container carrier comprises at least one magnetically active device. The system also comprises a transport plane to support the sample container carriers and a number of electro-magnetic actuators stationary arranged below the transport plane. The electro-magnetic actuators move the sample container carriers on top of the transport plane by applying a magnetic force to the sample container carriers. The system also comprises a rotating device comprising a rotating surface and a rotating drive to cause a rotational movement of the rotating surface. The system also comprises a control device to drive the electro-magnetic actuators, such that a sample container carrier to be rotated moves on the rotating surface, and to control the rotating drive such that a rotation of the sample container carrier is caused.

    Abstract: A computer implemented method for localizing handheld analytical devices in a point of care environment is presented. The method comprises associating a location identifier to a plurality of locations within the point of care environment and storing the location identifier into a database, at each of the plurality of locations, capturing signal patterns using signal receiver(s) of the handheld analytical devices, storing all signal patterns captured in a database, capturing a current signal pattern using signal receiver(s) of a handheld analytical device to be localized, and providing a descriptive localization by a control unit indicative of its position relative to one or more of the plurality of locations within the point of care environment associated with one or more signal pattern(s) stored in the database matching the current signal pattern.

    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method for detecting a core polypeptide of a hepatitis C virus (HCV) in a sample from a subject with the steps of (a) contacting the sample with a surfactant comprising a cationic detergent; (b) contacting the sample with a binding compound; and (c) detecting a core polypeptide of the HCV in the sample; wherein step a) is immediately followed by step b). The present disclosure further relates to a method for pre-processing a sample from a subject for detection of an HCV core polypeptide, involving (a) contacting the sample with a surfactant comprising a cationic detergent and, optionally, with an agent inducing a pH shift, immediately followed by (b) contacting the sample with a binding compound. Moreover, the present disclosure further relates to uses, devices, and analytical systems related to aforesaid methods.

    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of identifying a patient having heart failure as likely to respond to a therapy comprising a statin. The method is based on measuring the level of at least one marker selected from GDF-15 (Growth Differentiation Factor 15), Urea, SHBG (Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin), Uric acid, PLGF (Placental Growth Factor), IL-6 (Interleukin-6), Transferrin, a cardiac Troponin, sFlt-1 (Soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1), Prealbumin, Ferritin, Osteopontin, sST2 (soluble ST2), and hsCRP (high sensitivity C-reactive protein) in a sample from a patient. Further envisaged is a method of predicting the risk of a patient to suffer from death or hospitalization, wherein said patient has heart failure and undergoes a therapy comprising a statin. The method is also based on the measurement of the level of at least one of the aforementioned markers.

    Abstract: A test element analysis system for an analytical examination of a sample, in particular of a body fluid, is disclosed. The test element analysis system comprises an evaluation device with a test element holder for positioning a test element containing the sample and a measuring device for measuring a change in a measuring zone of the test element, the change being characteristic for an analyte. The test element holder contains contact elements with contact surfaces which allow an electrical contact between contact surfaces of the test element and the contact surfaces of the test element holder. The contact surfaces of the contact elements of the test element holder are provided with an electrically conductive surface containing metallic ruthenium.
