    摘要: The present invention is a wavelength-selective optical transmission system that includes a first waveguide for transmitting a multiplexed optical signal therethrough. The system further includes a second waveguide coupled to the first waveguide wherein a least one of the first and second waveguides have a set of wavelength-selective Bragg gratings disposed near a coupling section between the first and second waveguides to reflect a reflecting optical signal back to the first waveguide and for transmitting a contra-directional optical signal and a co-directional optical signal having respectively a contra-directional selected wavelength and a co-directional selected wavelength corresponding to the Bragg gratings. One of the contra-directional and co-directional wavelengths is chosen as a designated wavelength, and the reflecting optical signal and one of the contra-directional or co-directional optical signals are outside of a predefined range surrounding the designated wavelength.

    摘要: A refrigeration system includes a compressor, a gas cooler, an expansion device, and an evaporator. Refrigerant is circulated though the closed circuit system. Preferably, carbon dioxide is used as the refrigerant. As carbon dioxide has a low critical point, systems utilizing carbon dioxide as a refrigerant usually require the refrigeration system to run transcritical. When the system is operating inefficiently, the system is modified so the system operates efficiently. First, a parameter of the system is monitored by a sensor and the then compared to a stored value to determine if the system is operating inefficiently. If the system is operating inefficiently, the system is modified to an efficient system.

    摘要: A method and system for identifying a configuration parameter of a “sick” computer system that is at fault for causing an undesired behavior based on analysis of configuration parameters from other computer systems is provided. In one embodiment, a troubleshooting system collects “suspect” values for “suspect” configuration parameters used by a “sick” application when the undesired behavior was exhibited by the sick computer system. The troubleshooting system then compares the suspect values to sample values of the suspect configuration parameters retrieved from sample computer systems. The troubleshooting system uses that comparison to identify one or more suspect configuration parameters that are likely at fault for causing the application to exhibit the undesired behavior.

The opening can be a window or a depression. The plates are bounded such that they define a cavity, with the array being within the cavity. Conducting lines for connecting the electrodes to electrochemical instruments may be formed on the same surface of the base plate on which the electrodes are formed. At least one of the electrodes may be covered by a coating doped with a ferrocene compound. The coating may be a supported bilayer lipid membrane doped with benzoylferrocene. The doped ferrocene compound may be oxidized.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for compensating for a Bragg wavelength shift in a grating assisted direct coupler is disclosed. The direct coupler includes an input waveguide and an output waveguide. The output waveguide has formed thereon a Bragg grating. By varying the characteristics of the Bragg grating, such as by applying a temperature gradient or a strain gradient, the Bragg wavelength shift can be compensated for. Alternatively, the periodicity of the Bragg grating can be varied.
