Abstract:
The present invention provides methods for combining antenna diversity and gain control in a communications system using a single chain of receiver electronics. A number of input parameters related to various characteristics of a received signal are used to determine the quality of the received signal. The antenna diversity and gain control procedures are enabled or disabled based on the signal quality. The antenna diversity procedure estimates the signal level of the non-operational antenna using an infinite impulse response digital filter. The gain control procedure selects one of three gain paths based on the received signal strength.
Abstract:
A symmetric multiprocessor system connecting a plurality of CPUs by a common bus initializes itself while defective CPUs are set aside to use only the remaining CPUs when the power is turned on, thereby maintaining the predetermined CPU numbers and giving a minimum influence with the existing software thereof. The multiprocessor system includes an identifier setting register to designate in a predetermined order the CPU numbers only to normal CPUs, and a reset controller to cut off the defective CPUs from the common bus. The multiprocessor system can automatically start re-setting up where the defective CPUs are detected during the processing of setting-up based on the time-out detection, can release an abnormal state of the hardware, and can control the setting-up processing in use of any CPU based on the level of a reset status input port and contents of a reset information register.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for digital cordless telephone systems are disclosed for detecting and correcting errors in received signals. Such methods and apparatus include providing a table of predetermined syndromes, wherein each of the predetermined syndromes has an associated error correction pattern. The table is formed by selecting from all possible syndromes that could be predetermined from the segment length of received digital data, those predetermined syndromes having error patterns for correcting a predetermined number of errors within the segment and arranging the predetermined syndromes in the table in accordance with a predetermined order, such as ascending or descending numerical order. Thereafter, a current syndrome is calculated for the received digital data and the predetermined syndrome contained in the table matching the current syndrome is located by using a predetermined search technique. Received digital data is corrected by retrieving the error correction pattern associated with the located predetermined syndrome and correcting the error in the received digital data in response to this error correction pattern.
Abstract:
A laser comprising a first mirror having a shape. The shape is generally spherical for typical lasers with the shape of the mirror being defined by the radius of curvature of a reflective surface on the mirror. A second mirror is provided mounted with the first to define a laser cavity. The cross-sectional sizes of the modes of oscillation within the laser cavity are defined by the shape of the first mirror. An aperture at a given location having a fixed cross-sectional size is mounted with the laser cavity. Alternatively, a laser bore which forms an effective aperture at a given location is used. A means is mounted with the first mirror for adjusting the shape of the first mirror so that the cross-sectional size of a selected mode at the given location matches the cross-sectional size of the aperture.
Abstract:
This invention relates to an apparatus and method for detecting and measuring the position of a fracture in solid formations, such as for example a grout filled borehole. An electrical element is placed the length of the borehole prior to filling the hole with grout. When the hole is filled and the grout solidified, any fracture in the grout also breaks the electrical element. The element is constructed such that its electrical capacitance is a known function of its length. The element is constructed of easily frangible materials so that it is severed in close proximity to the grout fracture. The capacitance of the element after the fracture can be measured using suitable instrumentation. The position of the break is a function of the capacitance as measured after the break.

The methods & apparatus have sufficient accuracy for practical implementation in personal & corporate wellness. Solid or multi-layer, multi-piece surface comprises a plurality of layers, wherein at least one layer is a decorative outer layer selected based on choice and availability and at least one bottom layer comprising a slip-resistant under surface. The present disclosure provides methods, processes, reagents for a novel health wellness and fitness placement mat.The present invention comprises a non-rectangular or square design recreational placement mat that will eliminate the side or no side visual therefore enhancing the mentality of the participate by eliminating visual stimuli that may cause apprehension during exercise that may hinder results and benefits. Out of sight, out of mind. Enhancing the safety of the participate immediately. The non-rectangular/square design enhances the mentality by eliminating doubt or the thought of falling off or out of the foreseen sides or lack thereof. No sides increase focus and intent, improving psychophysiological self-safety.
Abstract:
A bed frame and cover that is capably joinable to another bed frame and cover and capably disjoinable from another bed frame and cover and of which comprises a mattress supporting plate which is capable of moving vertically within the cover. The cover is a unified structure of walls and a roof with pivotally connected doors that capably form an enclosure around the plate or of which are stowable on the roof. The entire cover is capable of 360 degree bi-directional rotation around the entire plate as well as vertical movement. A capably pivotable mattress attachment is stowable under the plate or extends to form a contiguous mattress surface of which is supported by rods that connect to another bed frame and cover. The bed frame and cover is capable of a multitude of configurations dependent on bed frame, mattress attachment and the cover's optional positioning.
Abstract:
A sealing and/or cutting instrument having a thermally active surface or element which may be used to seal and then cut tissue, ducts, vessels, etc., apart. The instrument may include a thermally active surface or element comprised of a conductor covered with a ferromagnetic material. The instrument may contact tissue with one or more surfaces comprised of a non-stick material. A sensor in communication with the instrument may be used to monitor a therapeutic procedure and signal when sealing and/or cutting of a tissue is complete.
Abstract:
Fitting a sound processing device for an individual is automated using a computer. Fitting and customization is carried out using natural sounds without specialized audiometric equipment or audiological expertise. Software for this purpose is downloaded from an internet portal. The computer plays back acoustic signals, and obtains user input reflecting the user's perceptions of the acoustic signals, from which a hearing map is derived, representing the user's hearing. An algorithm updates the device fitting based on the hearing map. Also provided is pre-sale virtual device fitting, whereby a virtual signal processing path is established in the computer, reflecting a signal processing function of a sound processing device of interest to the user. An algorithm updates parameters of the virtual processing path, based on the hearing map. Audio signals passed through the virtual processing path are played back to the user, giving the user an acoustic indication of future device performance.
