    摘要: An improved field instrumentation system employing optical multiplex transmission in which data from a plurality of field devices, including both sensors and controllers, are transmitted through an optical distributor, such as a star coupler, to a master processor at a control panel location as well as to other field devices. The optical distributor branches and couples in a ratio of N:N, the data which are transmitted bidirectionally through the various optical transmission paths connected to the field devices to form the basis of a control loop located in the field. A submaster processor, located in the field and coupled to the optical distributor, is automatically substituted for the master processor in the event that the master processor is disabled. The overall reliability of this system is thereby markedly improved.

    摘要: An industrial process control transmitter has a modular construction, with a detector module and an output module electrically connected together by a serial bus. The output module includes a microcomputer, a modem for digital communication over the two-wire loop, analog output circuitry for controlling loop current, a digital-to-analog converter, and a memory for storing calibration factors and D/A characterization factors.The detector module includes several sensors with associated circuitry to convert the sensor signals to digital signals. The detector module also includes a memory which contains characterization factors unique to the sensors which can be used by the microcomputer to correct the digital values provided by the detector circuitry. The microcomputer of the output module is considered the master unit, and all of the circuits of the detector board which interface with the serial bus are considered slave units. Data is collected by the microcomputer when a selected detector circuit provides an interrupt over the serial bus. The microcomputer then provides a select signal requesting data. The detector module provides data from the sensor circuits in a selected order in response to the select signal.

The dials are configured to be adhesively mounted over dial pointers on an existing utility meter, thus permitting retrofitting of meters with noncontact shaft angle detectors.

    摘要: A phase analog encoding system with compensation for the phase shift error inherent in a resolver position transducer. The inherent phase shift error in a resolver position transducer is compensated independent of a resolver position in a time multiplexed fashion by periodically applying a known reference signal to the resolver and measuring the electrical phase shift across only the resolver. The newly measured value of the inherent electrical phase shift is compared with the last measured value of the inherent electrical phase shift and any deviation is calculated. This deviation is used to determine the appropriate compensation value for the inherent electrical phase shift. The compensation value is subtracted from the resolver phase shift during normal operation resulting in an output signal which is independent of the inherent electrical phase shift error in the resolver position transducer. Additionally, compensation for encoding errors is developed in a calibration mode. This compensation for encoding errors can then be used during the operation of the encoding system.

    摘要: To provide for optical indication of output values relating to the operating conditions, or other parameters for display on the dashboard of a display panel, for example on automotive vehicles, a display panel (10) has a plurality of indicating blocks (15a . . . 15k) distributed thereover. A logic circuit, for example provided by a micro-processor (12) supplies data over data busses (21, 41) to the respective indicating blocks, which can be connected in series (FIGS. 2, 4) or in parallel (FIGS. 5-7). The logic circuit is connected through suitable connecting lines (13) with sensor inputs, providing ambiant, or operation or operating data. The logic circuit, additionally, generates data of its own, for example time outputs. The indicating blocks each include a shift register (17, 18, 50) which is connected to a data line, the stages of the shift register being connected to respective indicating elements (16, 53) which, together, formed the indicating blocks--for example LCD elements--so that the shift state of the respective shift register will provide suitable output indications. For example, if a shift register has eight positions, and four sequential positions have a 1-signal and four other sequential positions have a zero-signal, a line can be displayed representative of half-full state of a fuel tank.

    摘要: A transmitter has a plurality of parallel inputs, and each input is connected to a switch. The transmitter receives a trigger signal that has a constant frequency. Using the trigger signal, the transmitter provides a signal which consists of individual series signals, each one of the series signals representing the status of one of the switches. The series signal also includes a sync signal which precedes the series signals associated with the status of the switches. These series signals are generated in synchronism with the trigger signal that is applied to the transmitter. A receiver receives the series signals and also the trigger signal. The sync signal is detected in the receiver, and a status signal is generated in response to each of the series signals following the sync signal as those signals are received. Each status signal is applied to an input which is identified by the number of repetitions made by the trigger signal after the sync signal is detected. An alarm may be activated in response to the status signal on the receiver outputs, the number of which equals the number of inputs on the transmitter.

    摘要: A sensor communication system uses a shared analog signal to duty cycle converter for producing a comparison between a predetermined free-running triangular waveshape and a selected output signal from a plurality of analog signal sources such as process sensors, to convert the amplitude of the analog signal to a variable duty cycle signal. The variable duty cycle signal is subsequently converted to a digital signal which may be represented by a count stored in a counter counting clock pulses during the occurrence of the pulse width waveshape of the variable duty cycle signal. The digital signal is utilized as a digital word by a microprocessor operating in accordance with a stored program to produce a characterized digital output signal for use in a communication after conversion to a 4-20 ma control signal for communication and control in an industrial process control system. One of the signal sources may be from a circuit having temperature and time drift components whereby the corresponding digital word is used by the microprocessor to compensate the digital words from the other analog signal sources.
