Abstract: A companion device and a broadcast reception device are provided for receiving a broadcast service. The companion device may include a communication device and a controller. The communication device discovers the broadcast reception device and connects the companion device with the broadcast reception device. The controller receives signaling information and to perform a function related to the signaling information. The signaling information includes emergency alert information. The emergency alert information includes an identifier (ID) for identifying an emergency alert message and information indicating a category of the emergency alert message. The broadcast reception device may include a first communication device to discover the companion device and connect the broadcast reception device with the companion device, a second communication device to receive signaling information for signaling the broadcast service based on the broadcast service, and a controller to notify the companion device of the signaling information.
