Abstract:
A method for use with an information (or data) warehouse comprises managing the information warehouse with instructions in a declarative language. The instructions specify information warehouse-level tasks to be done without specifying certain details of how the tasks are to be implemented, for example, using databases and text indexers. The details are hidden from the user and include, for example, in an information warehouse having a FACT table that joins two or more dimension tables, details of database level operations when structured data are being handled, including database command line utilities, database drivers, and structured query language (SQL) statements; and details of text-indexing engines when unstructured data are being handled. The information warehouse is managed in a dynamic way in which different tasks—such as data loading tasks and information warehouse construction tasks—may be interleaved (i.e., there is no particular order in which the different tasks must be completed).
Abstract:
An application consistent data protection method provides application-assist and replication-technology neutral mirroring that ensures that a remote data copy is application-consistent. The method comprises a coordination protocol to coordinate application hosts across heterogeneous hosts and heterogeneous storage devices. The method utilizes a disk layout and data record format that enables use of an underlying replication ability of a storage device, minimizing development cost and utilizing customer investment. The method comprises on-demand consistency point initiation to minimize performance impact and maximize system resource usage. The method can be applied to both synchronous and asynchronous mirroring and can be incorporated into any virtualization device.
Abstract:
A method and analytics tools for locating experts with specific sets of expertise are disclosed, the method including providing a collection of documents P0; generating categories representing fields of expertise derived from the collection of documents P0; refining the taxonomy of the categories by applying user domain knowledge; extracting structured fields from the collection of documents P0; constructing a contingency table having a first axis defined by the extracted structured fields and a second axis defined by the categories; and using the contingency table to identify a set of experts having a related expertise. The method may also include a network graph analysis that aids visualization of the relationship between people and expertise.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for customizing a web page comprising components and steps for analyzing a template of the web page to obtain block elements constituting the web page template, selecting a block element to be customized, and setting an optimization and/or differentiating policy for the selected block element, thus customizing the selected block element, and storing the customized policy correlated to a selector. The invention also provides an apparatus for optimizing and/or differentiating a web page based on customized policies, which are stored correlated to selectors and web page templates, comprising a web page object selector for comparing the visited original web page and the selectors associated with the customized policies to determine the portion in the web page matched with a selector; and a policy enforcer for enforcing a corresponding policy on said matched portion, thus displaying an optimized and differentiated web page.
Abstract:
Novel methods of synthesizing heteroatom-containing chiral porphyrins and chiral metalloporphyrins and the novel chiral porphyrins and chiral metalloporphyrins themselves are disclosed. Metal complexes of the chiral porphyrins are prepared in high yields and shown to be active catalysts for highly enantioselective and diastereoselective cyclopropanation, aziridination, and epoxidation of alkenes under a practical one-pot protocol.
Abstract:
An exemplary backlight control circuit (20) includes a sampling circuit (210), a pulse width modulation integrated circuit (260), a primary switch unit (271), and two secondary switch units (272, 273) connected in series to the primary switch unit. The sampling circuit outputs voltage signals to control on-off states of the two secondary switch units. The two secondary switch units correspondingly control an on-off state of the primary switch unit, and the primary switch unit correspondingly controls an on-off state of the pulse width modulation integrated circuit.
Abstract:
Systems and computer products that improve the techniques used to search multidimensional databases over techniques of the past. The preferred embodiment of the present invention advantageously improves the technique of determining a grid index that is used to locate a geometric shape in a spatial database. More particularly, the preferred embodiment of the present invention improves the technique of defining the grid cell size in a grid for a given data set, thereby improving the grid indexing process that locates a particular minimum-bounding rectangle and the associated geometric shape.

Abstract:
The present invention provides the multifunctional biological and biochemical sensor technology based on the integration of ZnO nanotips with bulk acoustic wave (BAW) devices, particularly, quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) and thin film bulk acoustic wave resonator (TFBAR). ZnO nanotips provide giant effective surface area and strong bonding sites. Furthermore, the controllable wettability of ZnO nanostructured surface dramatically reduces the liquid consumption and enhances the sensitivity of the biosensor device.
Abstract:
A connector includes a terminal which includes a base with an arm extending inclinedly therefrom and a first contact portion protrudes from a top of a front end of the arm, The front end extends inclinedly from the first contact portion and has a sharp tip. A plastic frame has insertion slots for receiving the terminals and a wire space defined in a top of the plastic frame so as to receive wires therein and a plurality of receiving spaces are defined in the plastic frame and communicate with the insertion slots. A plurality of access slots are defined in the top of the plastic frame and the first contact portions of the terminals extend from the access slots so as to contact the wires. A cavity is defined in a front of each of the receiving spaces so as to receive the front end of the terminal.
