Abstract: This application discloses various techniques for call establishment using voice-over LTE (VoLTE) in networks supporting time division (TD) and frequency division duplexed (FDD) LTE communication systems. Such techniques can include systems and methods for mobile-originated calls for a UE in a TD-LTE cell, systems and methods for mobile-terminated calls for a connected UE in a TD-LTE cell and systems and methods for mobile-terminated calls for an idle UE in a TD-LTE cell. These methods and systems can leverage component carriers from a carrier aggregating capable UE to facilitate more efficient and/or effective UE call establishment.

Abstract: Method and apparatus of a user equipment (UE) device communicating during discontinuous reception (DRX). The UE may determine a data traffic pattern of an application executing on the UE. The UE may compare the data traffic pattern against a plurality of DRX configuration settings of a base station (BS). The UE may determine that the DRX configuration settings do not match the data traffic pattern. The UE may select a first DRX configuration setting based on the data traffic pattern. The UE may perform communication according to the first DRX configuration settings. The UE may transmit a scheduling request (SR) outside of a DRX on-duration according to the data traffic pattern. Transmitting the SR may be based on the DRX configuration settings not matching the data traffic pattern of the application. In response to transmitting the SR, the UE may receive downlink data of the application from the BS.

Abstract: A device and method for transmitting user equipment capability information to a network. In a first mechanism, the device and method determines the carrier aggregation (CA) combinations supported by the user equipment that are relevant to the user equipment. in a priority order to the network. The relevant CA combinations may be determined based on most recent camped bands and the neighbor bands of the most recent camped bands. In a second mechanism, the device and method orders the relevant CA combinations into a prioritized list according to which CA combination have priority based on selected priority factors. Subsequently, the user equipment broadcasts the prioritized list of CA combinations to the network.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for estimating data traffic characteristics for applications to condition data communication channels that support data packet transfer for the applications in wireless communication devices are disclosed. Data connections to support different applications and/or daemon software processes can be established and subsequently adjusted based on data traffic characteristics for data that the different applications/daemons generate and/or consume. Traffic flows for the applications/daemons are classified into traffic classes based on likely data traffic patterns. When data sources are added or deleted, changes to a traffic class state can be determined, and wireless circuitry adjusted based at least in part on the traffic class state and a traffic class policy. Adjusting parameters that affect the periodicity and/or length of active time periods and sleep periods in accordance with estimated data traffic patterns for applications/daemons that use the data connections can reduce power consumption by the wireless circuitry.

Abstract: Methods that are performed by a user equipment (UE) and corresponding methods of base stations that allow a UE to determine whether the UE is in a carrier aggregation enabled or disabled state. One exemplary embodiment of a method performed by a UE determines a first artificial value for a first parameter and a second artificial value for a power headroom (PHR) for a secondary component carrier (SCC), the first and second artificial values being substantially low relative to a configuration of the network, generates an artificial report including the first and second artificial values, transmits the artificial report to a primary cell providing a primary component carrier (PCC) and receives an indication that the UE is placed in a carrier aggregation disabled state.

Abstract: A method for initiating a codec rate change during a VoIP call by a wireless communication device is disclosed. The method can include the wireless communication device establishing a first codec rate for use in the VoIP call during a call establishment phase; using the first codec rate to encode voice data for transmission during a first portion of the VoIP call; determining a channel quality while using the first codec rate; determining that the channel quality satisfies a threshold for requesting a codec rate change; requesting a codec rate change from the first codec rate to a second codec rate in response to the channel quality satisfying the threshold; and using the second codec rate to encode voice data for transmission during a second portion of the VoIP call.
