Abstract:
Embodiments are provided for utilizing metallic portions in dental positioning appliances. One embodiment includes a removable dental positioning appliance having a shell having one or more cavities shaped to receive and reposition one or more teeth from a first orientation to a successive orientation and where at least a portion of the shell is formed from a metallic mesh material.
Abstract:
Dental retention systems which facilitate the adjustment or removal of an oral appliance, e.g., a crown or bridge, from a reconfigurable abutment assembly are described. The adjustable abutment assembly may be secured to an anchoring implant bored into the bones within the mouth. The abutment assembly has a projecting abutment portion with one or more shape memory alloy compression plates or elements extending along the projecting abutment portion. Each of the plates has a length with one or more straightened portions and with at least one curved or arcuate portion. Energy may be applied to the elements such that the arcuate portion self-flattens to allow for the oral appliance to be placed thereupon while removal of the energy allows the elements to reconfigure into its curved configuration thereby locking the oral appliance to the abutment. Removal of the oral appliance may be effected by reapplication of energy to the elements.

Abstract:
A filling material pin (1) is provided made from a flexible material and is used for filling a root canal (6) of a tooth. The flexible material is memory material, which expands upon heating to the tooth or body temperature in the form of a volume change. The exterior of the filling material pin (1) is profiled at least across the length thereof that is effective in the use position such that regions having both larger and smaller cross-sections alternate in the axial direction, which can be achieved in a particularly useful and simple manner by a helical, threaded, or worm shape of the profiling, which simultaneously pushes an added cement or filling material more effectively and deeper into the canal (6) upon rotating the filling material pin (1) inserted into the root canal (6), thus allowing air contained therein to escape.
Abstract:
Method for manufacturing a dental instrument having a desired machined configuration, without twisting the instrument. A blank of superelastic material is brought to an annealed state comprising a phase structure including a rhombohedral phase alone or in combination with austenite and/or martensite, or a combination of martensite and austenite. In this annealed state, a portion of the annealed material is removed at low temperature, for example less than about 100° C., and advantageously at ambient temperature, to form a final machined configuration for the instrument. The instrument is then heat treated and rapidly quenched to a superelastic condition.
Abstract:
Orthodontic brackets having a bracket base including at least one arch wire slot formed therein and a bendable or flexible member (e.g., a film hinge) having a relatively thin cross-sectional thickness to facilitate flexing or bending of the member with little or no permanent deformation, wherein at least the bendable or flexible member comprises an amorphous metallic alloy.
Abstract:
To provide a stopper for a cutting tool capable of getting a correct depth required in a medical treatment field, even if a few kinds of a cutting tool are available, without preparing a many cutting tools, the stopper for a cutting tool is fitted to a rotary shaft of a cutting tool having the rotary shaft, the stopper includes a locking member which has a through hole contacting to the rotary shaft of the cutting tool, a clamping member which is made of a shape memory material, provided at the inner and/or outer side of the locking member and can deform the locking member by its recovering force, and a cutout part reaching to the through hole from an outer peripheral edge thereof in the longitudinal direction of the rotary shaft.
Abstract:
Methods for providing a group play list for a plurality of multimedia content records include associating respective ones of a plurality of users associated with a user network with corresponding ones of the multimedia content records on the group play list. A presence status of the respective ones of the users associated with the user network is detected. Rendering of the multimedia content records on the group play list to the users associated with the network is automatically adjusted based on the detected presence status. The user network may be, for example, a computer based social network.
Abstract:
An orthodontic appliance such as a bracket or buccal tube has a latch for retaining an archwire in an archwire slot. The appliance also includes built-torque in order to reduce the need for the practitioner to manually bend the archwire by twisting the archwire about its longitudinal axis during the course of treatment. The latch comprises at least one clip having certain features that significantly reduce strain during opening movements of the clip. As a result, the fatigue life of the clip is enhanced.
Abstract:
An orthodontic appliance includes a latch that comprises at least one clip with a region for receiving an archwire. The clip also includes a recess for receiving a post of the appliance and for coupling the clip to remaining components of the appliance. The post includes a neck and an outermost head, and the neck and the head are constructed to reduce the extent that the clip must be opened to fit the clip over the head and onto the post during assembly of the appliance.
