Abstract: A manifold for a medical/surgical waste collection system. An outlet opening and a fitting are in fluid communication with a manifold volume within a housing. The fitting receives a suction line. A filter element with porous features is disposed within the housing such that a fluid communication path is established across the filter element. The porous features trap material entrained within the fluid. A material collection volume is at least partially distal to and below a bottom of the filter element. As the fluid and the material is drawn through the fluid communication path, the material collects within the material collection volume. A flow diverter may be positioned within the housing for directing the material towards the material collection volume. The material collection volume may be at least partially defined by a tissue trap removably coupled to the housing.

Abstract: A patient transport apparatus with a base, a litter comprising a support surface, and a lift mechanism to facilitate arranging the litter at different heights relative to the base between a plurality of lift configurations including a fully-retracted configuration and a fully-extended configuration. The lift mechanism includes an actuator including a cylinder, fluid reservoir, and a pump driven by a motor to direct hydraulic fluid from the fluid reservoir to the cylinder. A sensor outputs a signal indicative of a magnitude of pressure in the cylinder. A user interface with an input control is provided. A controller determines a target parameter for the motor and, in response to user engagement with the input control, drives the motor at the target parameter to effect movement of the litter relative to the base at a predetermined rate irrespective of a weight of a patient supported on the litter.

Abstract: A patient turning device for a patient support apparatus. The patient turning device includes a first and second bladder assembly each including a plurality of layers and seals defining a bladder volume. The bladder volumes are selectively inflatable with fluid to expand the respective bladder assembly, and consequently move a patient support surface of the patient support apparatus. A portion of a lower layer of the first bladder assembly and a portion of an upper layer of the second bladder assembly define an overlapping region of the bladder volumes. The patient turning device is coupled to an underside of a carrier sheet and positioned between a crib assembly and a bottom cover. An augmenting feature is configured to resiliently expand as at least one of the first and second bladder assemblies receives the fluid to move at least a portion of the crib assembly away from a patient support deck.

Abstract: A vaso-occlusive coil formed of a wire having a primary configuration in a constrained condition. The coil assumes a secondary configuration in a relaxed, unconstrained condition. The secondary configuration comprises a primary portion comprising a plurality of primary loops, including a distal-most primary loop. A distal anchoring loop is connected to the distal end of the distal-most primary loop. The distal anchoring loop has a substantially triangular shape and is much smaller than the distal-most primary loop. The distal anchoring loop prevents herniation of the device during deployment and retention within an anatomical cavity.

Abstract: A patient support apparatus for supporting a patient comprising a support frame and a support deck coupled to the support frame. The support deck has a deck section arranged to articulate relative to said support frame between a first position and a second position. Abstract: Methods and systems for automatically determining correspondences between communication ports of a networked device and encoders and decoders connected to those communication ports. In some embodiments, the networked device and the encoders and decoders are connected to a video communications network provided by a switch. The networked device can query the video communications network for information related to the encoders and decoders to determine and save the port-to-device correspondences. In some embodiments, the networked device can extract device information from video signals received at its input ports to map the input ports to respectively connected decoders. In similar fashion, the networked device may transmit or embed port-specific information from its output ports to respectively connected encoders. Then, the networked device can query the video communications network for the port-specific information received at the encoders to map the output ports to respectively connected encoders.

Abstract: The console-based surgical system includes a footswitch having a footswitch connector line and an input visual indicator having a light emitter. The console-based surgical system includes a surgical console including instrument ports for coupling to and transmitting an energization signal to a surgical instrument and a footswitch port for coupling to and receiving a signal from the footswitch. Each instrument port includes an instrument visual indicator and the footswitch port includes a footswitch visual indicator. The indicators include a light emitter and a ring-shaped light guide. The surgical console includes a controller, which associates the footswitch port with an instrument port and activates the light emitter of the input visual indicator, the footswitch visual indicator, and the instrument visual indicator of the associated instrument port to emit a matching colored light. The controller receives a signal from the footswitch and generates and transmits an energization signal to the associated instrument port to actuate a function of the surgical instrument coupled to the associated instrument port.
