Abstract: A relay device configured to communicate with a terminal device of the network and with a base station of the network. The relay device comprises transmitter circuitry, receiver circuitry and controller circuitry. The controller circuitry is configured in combination with at least the transmitter circuitry: to select a maximum transmission power to be used by the terminal device for communicating with the relay device, wherein the identified maximum transmission power is based on link information relating to one or both of the link between the relay device and the base station and the link between the relay device and the terminal; to notify the communication device of the selected maximum transmission power for the terminal to select an actual transmission power and to transmit signals to the relay device at a power that is no more than the maximum transmission power.

Abstract: A wireless telecommunications system including a base station and terminal device, supporting a virtual carrier mode with downlink communications made by the base station using a radio interface spanning a system frequency bandwidth while the terminal device can receive at least some communications from the base station within a restricted subset of transmission resources selected from within the system frequency bandwidth providing a restricted bandwidth downlink. The terminal device can measure channel conditions across the system frequency bandwidth and transmit corresponding measurement reports to the base station. Measurement reports for transmission resources not including the restricted bandwidth downlink channel may be aperiodic while measurement reports for transmission resources including the restricted bandwidth downlink channel may be periodic. Measurement reports for transmission resources not including the restricted bandwidth downlink channel may be based on a subset of the channel condition measurements selected because they are associated with relatively poor channel conditions.

Abstract: A communications system communicating data to/from a communications terminal includes plural wireless communications networks to transmit/receive signals to/from the communications terminal via wireless access interfaces. The communications terminal receives from an access server selection information for selecting one of the wireless communications networks, for transmitting or receiving the data in accordance with the selection information in combination with one or more determined measurements of the wireless access interface of the wireless communications networks. The access server includes an indication of a preferred communications characteristic for transmitting or receiving the signals representing the data, and in accordance with the preferred communications characteristic the communications terminal adapts the determined measurements and selects one of the wireless communications networks which most closely satisfy the preferred communications characteristic in accordance with the adapted-determined measurements.
