Abstract:
The invention relates to disulfide-rich peptides derived from spider venom and their use, particularly as neuroprotective agents. The invention also relates to nucleic acid molecules encoding the peptides as well as constructs and host cells comprising those nucleic acid molecules.
Abstract:
A diagnostic device for analysing properties of an analyte in a sample liquid including: a distribution zone having at least two hydrophilic layers placed one on top of the other, wherein one layer is a top layer (12) and the other is a bottom layer (13); and a detection zone located under the distribution zone, the detection zone having a detection layer (14), wherein: the top layer has one or more openings (15) through which the sample liquid is introduced into the device; the bottom layer having one or more openings (16) connecting the distribution zone to the detection zone; the bottom layer also having a means by which the sample liquid is distributed from the top layer's opening to the detection layer through the bottom layer's opening; and a visual indication results on the detection layer when the sample liquid comes into contact with the detection layer.
Abstract:
A process for cognitive assessment and training, the process being executed by at least one processor of a computing system and including the steps of: receiving interaction data representing interactions between an application executing on an electronic device and an individual interacting with the executing application; processing the interaction data to generate performance data representing quantitative measures of the performance of the individual with respect to the executing application; and processing the performance data for the individual to generate cognitive assessment data indicative of at least one attention-related ability of the individual.
Abstract:
A mm-wave RFID tag interrogation apparatus includes multiple transmitting antennas, and multiple receiving antennas. The transmitting and receiving antennas are spatially distributed and oriented in orthogonal polarization states. A transmitter is coupled to the transmitting antennas, and transmits a corresponding multiple number of separable mm-wave signals. A receiver coupled to the receiving antennas is configured to extract separable components of received mm-wave signals. A processing unit processes the extracted signal components using a synthetic aperture algorithm. An RFID tag, readable by the interrogation apparatus, includes meander-line conductive elements arranged to encode information spatially on a substrate.
Abstract:
Ultrathin plasmene nanosheets are demonstrated as a new class of flexible surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate capable of conformal attachment and sensitive and reproducible detection of chemicals on topologically complex surfaces. Engineering building block morphologies allows for fine-tuning of the SERS performance. In a preferred application the plasmene nanosheets are demonstrated as the next generation plasmonic and/or SERS coded labels, such as for example, anti-counterfeit security label for banknotes. Engineering the morphologies of plasmene-constituent nanoparticles and varying of SERS molecular labels offer virtually unlimited coding capacities.
Abstract:
A visual image processing method is based on received spatial field information (302) from a spatial field sensor (116). A data store (804) is accessed, which contains a sensor map data structure (206) comprising a set of predefined regions (208) within a spatial field corresponding with the information received via the sensor input. Each predefined region is associated in the data structure with one or more of a set of stimuli (204) applicable to a biological visual system, and each stimulus corresponds with a visual percept (210). The spatial field information associated with each region is processed to generate stimulus control information which is applied to select, from within the sensor map data structure, stimuli from the set of stimuli for application to the biological visual system. Output stimulus signals (310) are generated, which are suitable for application to the biological visual system based upon the selected stimuli. Flexible mappings are thus provided between visual percepts, stimuli which may be applied (e.g. via a prosthetic implant) in order to generate the percepts, and associations between those stimuli and regions of the spatial field corresponding with the visual percepts.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to imaging of a human or animal heart, particularly imaging of movement of the heart and can be used for imaging function and form in a wide range of research, medical, veterinary and industrial applications. In particular, the present invention provides a method and apparatus for imaging a subject heart, the method including the steps of (1) recording at least one in vivo image of a lung of the subject in one or more regions; (2) applying said at least one in vivo image to a 2D or 3D heart model; and (3) reconstructing a 2D or 3D image field of the subject heart.
Abstract:
Expression of proteolytically active, high molecular weight ADAM protease is relatively increased in tumour cells that also express the putative tumour stem cell marker CD133. An antibody or antibody fragment such as 8C7 monoclonal antibody may be used to selectively bind to proteolytically active, high molecular weight ADAM10 protease to thereby detect tumour cells and also as a therapeutic agent for treating cancers, tumours and other malignancies inclusive of leukemia, lymphoma, lung cancer, colon cancer, adenoma, neuroblastoma, brain tumour, renal tumour, prostate cancer, sarcoma and/or melanoma.
Abstract:
A process for the separation of a gas from a gas stream using metal organic framework that is reversibly switchable between a first conformation that allows the first gas species to be captured in the metal organic framework, and a second conformation that allows the release of the captured first gas species, using light as the switching stimulus. The metal organic framework may comprise a metal and one or more ligands, in which the ligands contain an isomerizable group within the molecular chain that forms a link between adjacent metal atoms in the metal organic framework.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides proteins comprising antigen binding sites of antibodies that bind to interleukin-21 (IL-21) and uses thereof, e.g., in therapy.
