Abstract:
The invention relates to the field of domestic network technology. The control of an appliance in the network via a central appliance for the network and having a display unit is normally simplified with the aid of user interfaces. When an audio-video datastream has to be transmitted between two network appliances, then this takes place via data links that are set up. There is then a close relationship between the connected appliances, and this requires frequent switching between the user interfaces of the two appliances. For example, when the user interface for a CD player is displayed, this user interface must first of all be closed and a user interface for an amplifier in the network must be started, usually by selection from the list of all the appliances in the network, in order then to set the volume for the amplifier. The aim of the invention is to simplify the control of such appliances which are coupled to one another via a data link that has been set up. This is achieved by providing a field in the user interface for an appliance to be controlled, in which field a list of those appliances which maintain a connection that has been set up is displayed, and the user interface of that appliance is displayed with it. This results in a preselection from the list of all of the appliances in the network, allowing the desired user interface to be selected more quickly.
Abstract:
A method for recovering a display picture sequence from a coded digital video signal with a variable data rate comprises the steps of decoding the coded digital video signal in order to obtain an intermediate picture sequence, detecting the data rate of the coded digital video signal, and a quantity representative of the amount of motion in the pictures of the intermediate picture sequence, and filtering the intermediate picture sequence in order to obtain the display picture sequence, wherein a filtering characteristic of the filtering step is defined on the basis of the detected data rate and the detected motion quantity.
Abstract:
The invention relates to the technical field of local data transmission networks, in particular domestic networks. In networks such as these, the network stations log on in connection to the network. On disconnection, the network station which is leaving the network logs off in an appropriate manner. In the situation in which the user disconnects a network station simply by pulling out the network cable from the network, it is physically impossible to transmit the logging-off message. The invention is now concerned with the problem of how reliably an inactive network station can be identified, also taking account of the disconnection of the network station simply by pulling out the network plug. The invention solves the problem by regular transmission of a search request to the stations in the network. If a search request remains unanswered by one network station, an HTTP access is additionally attempted to, for example, the device description of the network station in question, or a control request. The network station is identified as being inactive only if this access/control request also fails. In the case of a UPnP network, the search request is made using the unprotected SSDP protocol, so that the lack of any response to the search request does not in its own right reliably indicate that the network station has logged off. The supposition that the network station which did not respond to the search request is inactive is confirmed by means of the HTTP access, which takes place on an error-protected basis.
Abstract:
The invention relates to the technical field of data transmission in a network of distributed stations. One problem particularly with a UPnP-based home network is that although the network-internal communication is based on the IP protocol, the allocated IP addresses are valid only locally and they therefore cannot be accessed via the Internet. This is the starting point of the invention, which proposes that remote access to the network have the network's switching node provide address conversion which is effected using an internally managed table about the devices which are present in the network and their IP addresses. For the remote access, the globally valid IP address of the switching node is used, with an additional information item being additionally provided in the HTTP Get remote access and allowing the address conversion. A suitable additional information item is the converted local IP address of the network station which is to be addressed, in particular. The response to the remote access involves the inverse address conversion, so that the references back to the local area network again contain the globally valid address of the switching node plus the additional information item.
Abstract:
The present invention provides optically selective coatings for plant tissues, such as agricultural products. The coatings are designed to transmit a desired spectrum of light, while preventing harmful intensities of radiation in given wavelength ranges from damaging the plant tissues. For example, a coating may be tailored to perform as a low-pass filter preferentially allowing shorter wavelengths to penetrate the coating, a high-pass filter preferentially passing longer wavelengths, or a band-pass filter, preferentially passing visible light to the plant tissues while minimizing the penetration of ultraviolet and infrared light. An exemplary embodiment comprises making an optically selective coating by determining a desired transmission spectrum for the coating, then calculating the film properties (such as thickness, particle size, and/or index of refraction, for example) of one or more materials to obtain the desired transmission spectrum for the film to be applied to the surface to be protected.

Abstract:
Refrigerated containers that contain continuously circulating air or oxygen-containing gas into which ozone is injected to preserve perishable food products that are susceptible to spoilage when stored for extended periods of time are disclosed. The ozone content of the circulating air is continuously monitored by an ozone sensor and adjustments to the amount and rate of ozone injection are continuously made by a controller on the basis of signals from the ozone sensor and other sensors.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a system and method for the disinfection of irrigation water. Irrigation water is exposed to ozone, which disinfects and flocculates the water for improved removal of bacterial contamination. One or more ozone generators produce ozone gas that is injected into the flow of irrigation water at one or more points in an irrigation water treatment system. The ozone may be hyper concentrated, and the mixing of ozone and water may be optimized so that the maximum amount of water is exposed to a concentration of ozone that is high enough to disinfect the water over the period of contact. Ozonated water is then delivered to farm fields. No harmful residues remain in the water or soil after treatment.

An illumination system including a light source, light guides coupled to the light source, each including an input surface and an output surface, emissive material positioned to receive light from at least one light guide, and a first interference reflector positioned between the emissive material and the output surfaces of the light guides is disclosed. The light source emits light having a first optical characteristic. The emissive material emits light having a second optical characteristic when illuminated with light having the first optical characteristic. The first interference reflector substantially transmits light having the first optical characteristic and substantially reflects light having the second optical characteristic.
