    Abstract: A differential delay detection system and method includes an optical splitter to split an incoming optical signal between a first path and a second path. The first path includes a cross-polarization interferometer configured to separately generate polarization independent outputs using split paths and to generate cross-polarization interference outputs, balanced photodetectors to aid in removing cross-polarization beating noise, and a polarization demultiplexer configured to combine the polarization independent outputs and the cross-polarization interference outputs from the cross-polarization interferometer with updated coefficients received from the second path to remove the cross-polarization mixed signals. The second path includes a training signal receiver configured to compute the updated coefficients and output the updated coefficients to the polarization demultiplexer.

    Abstract: The present disclosed invention relates to a quick switching mechanism for the side discharge unit and the chopper unit of a lawn mower: a side discharge unit and a chopper unit are mounted at the grass outlet on a cutting platform; wherein, the side discharge unit comprises a grass discharging gear shaft, a grass discharging hood mounted on the grass discharging gear shaft; the grass chopper unit comprises a grass chopping gear shaft, a grass chopping closing plate mounted on the grass chopping gear shaft; the small gear on the grass discharging gear shaft is engaged to the big gear on the grass chopping gear shaft; a guy wire is mounted on the cutting platform, and is connected to a rotary arm mounted on one end of the grass chopping gear shaft.     Abstract: Receivers and methods are provided for polarization mode dispersion compensation in multi-level coded-modulation schemes using a BLAST algorithm and iterative polarization cancellation. A receiver includes a vertical Bell Laboratories Layered Space-Time Architecture (V-BLAST) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) detector configured to receive input sequences and partially cancel polarization interference with respect to the input sequences to output symbol estimates for the input sequences. The receiver further includes one or more low-density parity-check (LDPC) decoders coupled to the V-BLAST OFDM detector configured to receive channel bit reliabilities and output code words. The channel bit reliabilities are indirectly calculated from the symbol estimates. The one or more LDPC decoders iteratively provide extrinsic soft information feedback to the V-BLAST OFDM detector to compensate for the polarization interference.

    Abstract: A recessed gate structure comprises a semiconductor substrate, a recess positioned in the semiconductor substrate, a gate oxide layer positioned in the recess and a conductive layer positioned on the gate oxide layer, wherein the semiconductor substrate has a multi-step structure in the recess. The thickness of the gate oxide layer on one step surface can be different from that on another step surface of the multi-step structure. In addition, the recessed gate structure further comprises a plurality of doped regions positioned in the semiconductor substrate under the multi-step structure, and these doped regions may use different dosages and different types of dopants. There is a carrier channel in the semiconductor substrate under the recessed gate structure and the overall channel length of the carrier channel is substantially the summation of the lateral width and twice of the vertical depth of the recessed gate structure.

    Abstract: A multi-step gate structure comprises a semiconductor substrate having a multi-step structure, a gate oxide layer positioned on the multi-step structure and a conductive layer positioned on the gate oxide layer. Preferably, the gate oxide layer has different thicknesses on each step surface of the multi-step structure. The channel length of the multi-step gate structure is the summation of the lateral width and the vertical depth of the multi-step gate structure, which is dramatically increased such that problems originated from the short channel effect can be effectively solved. Further, the plurality of doped regions under the multi-step structure are prepared by implanting processes having different dosages and dopants, which can control the thickness of the gate oxide layer and the threshold voltage of the multi-step gate structure.

    Abstract: A luminescent material, such as phosphor, is radiated by energy propagated from the side of an optical fiber, causing the luminescent material to emit visible light. The luminescent material can be of: a coincidentally-excited type, requiring the absorption of two wavelengths of radiation to emit visible light; memory-type, requiring absorption of one wavelength of charging radiation and absorption of another wavelength of controlling radiation to emit visible light; and quenchable type, requiring absorption of one wavelength of radiation to emit visible light and absorption of another wavelength of radiation to stop, i.e. quench, the emission of visible light. Two side-emitting optical fibers can be used, with each optical fiber providing one of the needed radiation wavelengths. One embodiment of the invention involves a matrix of optical fibers forming an optical display panel made using coincidentally-excited phosphors. Side-emitting optical fibers are used to simultaneously stimulate a phosphor pixel located between the two fibers, allowing matrix addressing of each pixel individually.
