Abstract: A method is provided for dynamically modifying a buffer in a network deploying multiple carriers, wherein multiple wireless devices communicate over the network. The wireless devices run applications, each application belonging to an application category. The method includes identifying the application category for a selected wireless device communicating over the network, wherein a first application category requires at least one of high throughput and low latency. The method additionally includes reducing a size of the buffer when the application category is the first application category, thereby initiating carrier aggregation for the selected wireless device.

Abstract: Limiting dual connectivity in a wireless sector served by at least two wireless air interfaces includes monitoring a pairing efficiency metric of wireless devices in the wireless sector. When the pairing efficiency metric rises above a threshold, a maximum number of wireless devices able to attach to one of the at least two wireless air interfaces is increased, and when the pairing efficiency metric falls below the threshold, the maximum number of wireless devices able to attach to one of the at least two wireless air interfaces is decreased. The wireless air interface for which dual connectivity is limited can be a 5G interface, and load is alleviated by limiting dual connectivity thereto.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for assigning a mobility parameter to a wireless device. One or more measurement reports may be collected at an access node from the wireless device. A pathloss change for the wireless device may be calculated based on the collected measurement reports. When the calculated pathloss change exceeds a threshold, the wireless device may be instructed to report surplus transmit power at the access node. The reported surplus transmit power may be correlated to preset location environments and a position of the wireless device classified based on the correlation. A mobility parameter may be assigned for the wireless device.

Abstract: Mitigating interference between access nodes in a wireless network includes determining interference caused to uplink signals received at a first access node by downlink signals transmitted from a second access node, and adjusting a guard period of a special subframe utilized by one or both of access nodes based on determining the interference, by switching special subframe formats to include a longer guard period. Overall interference is mitigated based on mutually-experienced propagation delay, and channel reciprocity. Adjustments are associated with known distances between access nodes.
