    摘要: A wheel and tire balancer and method for using the same is disclosed. The balancer includes a balancing head rotatable about the vertical axis of a horizontally oriented ball bearing assembly for determining lateral run-out of a wheel and tire assembly centered on the balancing head in a generally horizontal position. The balancer further includes a pivot bearing for allowing the balancing head with the wheel and tire assembly to be selectively supported on the pivot bearing to tilt from its normal horizontal position thereby indicating the static imbalance of the wheel and tire assembly. Imbalance compensating weights are added to the wheel rim in proportion to the linear amount of lateral run-out to approximate dynamic and static balancing of the wheel and tire assembly within tolerances more effective than static balancing alone.

    摘要: A bearing assembly for mowers or the like having a pair of bearings spread a maximum distance apart on a spindle within a fixed overall height partially due to securing a cutter mounting disc hub in abutting relation to the spindle shaft and placing one bearing within about one-sixteenth of an inch from the hub. A bearing housing is formed with a skirt which cooperates with the hub to act as a labyrinth seal for protecting the lower bearing from debris entering the bearing and for allowing the disc hub to sling water and debris away from the bearing. Cutter blade bolt shanks spaced from the axis of the spindle enter a lower annular sealing chamber above the hub and serve to chop any long pieces of grass or the like which may inadvertently enter the lower sealing chamber into small pieces thus preventing wrapping of such long material around the shaft.

    摘要: Resilient, adjustable jack mechanisms work in cooperation with front and/or rear end counterweights on the carrier frame of a mobile crane to improve the crane''s stability. At least one jack mechanism is attached to the carrier frame adjacent each counterweight. Resilient means using preloaded springs or a precharged hydropneumatic accumulator in the jack mechanism are disclosed. When a load is lifted over the front end of the crane, the front of the carrier frame deflects downwardly and the resilient means in the front jack mechanism transfers the weight of the front counterweight directly to ground while the rear of the carrier frame deflects upwardly and the resilient means in the rear jack mechanism reacts to lift the ground contacting float clear of the ground so the rear counterweight is then effective to counterbalance some of the lifting moment. When a load is lifted over the rear end, the opposite actions take place so the crane''s stability is improved in both modes of operation.
