Modified wool having improved shrink-proofing property is obtained by a two step process in which raw material wool is first immersed in a first aqueous bath containing a water-soluble organic phosphine and is then immersed in a second aqueous bath containing a modifying agent selected from epoxy compounds, ethyleneimine compounds, urea, substituted urea compounds, thiourea, substituted thiourea compounds, alkylene carbonates, unsaturated carboxylic acids, derivatives of unsaturated carboxylic acids, unsaturated nitriles, unsaturated alcohols, esters of an unsaturated alcohol, sulfonic acid salts having a vinyl group, cyanic acid salts, nonionic surfactants of a poly(alkylene oxide) type, salts of sulfates of the nonionic surfactants and silane coupling agents having a vinyl group. The treatment may also be performed by a one step process in which wool is immersed in an aqueous bath containing the above phosphine compound and a modifying agent selected from the above.

A flame-retardant filament-forming copolyester of at least 75 mol % of ethylene-2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylate units and at least 3 mol % up to 25 mol % of randomly copolymerized esters units having bromine or chlorine chemically united with either the diacid residue or both the diacid residue and the diol residue of said ester units. In addition, fibers of the above flame-retardant copolyester resin and flame-retardant cellulosic fibers are blended together to provide flame-retardant yarns and fabrics of excellent physical properties.

The resultant product has polyester linear grafts and crosslinks and improved resistance to wrinkling.

The invention relates to a process for the high-speed false twist texturing of yarns of synthetic filaments, in which a finish containing at least one water-soluble lubricant (A) and one water-insoluble liquid (B) with a viscosity of 2 to 50 mPas at 20° C. is applied to the yarns in the form of an aqueous emulsion, after which the filaments are textured on the false twist principle in texturing machines with a short high-temperature heater.
